Foam it up air tight? Or let the ceiling area breathe?

Don't completely seal it up, or there will be condensation issues. It needs to be vented.

New garage ideas!? Feel free to share!

Thank you for all the advice, suggestions, and welcomes. I'm definitely looking at going for storage in the trusses. Also going to be putting up a high shelf around the perimeter of the garage that can hold storage bins, etc. Primarily I will just be doing maintenance and minor work. My...

New garage ideas!? Feel free to share!

Not really planning on a lift at this point. Probably in the next house. I'm 33 and getting married this year, and have saved to build this garage so i'll be happy just to be up off the dirt and gravel. The 26' deep scenario won't work due to the site layout. I really appreciate the ideas though.

Canadians: where did you order your garage heater from?

lbrowne, just a question, why are you planning on going gas instead of electric? Don't we pay about $0.065/kWh in Calgary? I am planning a garage build for this spring and was thinking of which way to go to heat it. Thought electric would have been cheaper?

New guy from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Thanks for the welcome! Unfortunately I'm limited to 20' by the property, so I'll just have to make-do. My '50 is just shy of 17' and I'm thinking I'll leave the endwall free of benches/storage/etc, so I'll have a couple feet to shimmy around anyway.

New garage ideas!? Feel free to share!

I'm limited to 20' due to the property constraints. Ofcourse I'd like to go deeper but right now 20x26 is the limit. I'm planning on a workbench and some shelving along a sidewall with the the door offset to provide maximum work area on the bench side. I have a '50 Chev and will have that...

Hi, new guy here to the site and am building my first garage this spring. Looks like it will be approx 20' in depth and 26' in width. I am looking to hear some ideas of things that you wish you did when you built yours, or ideas of things that you think I should take into consideration when I...

New guy from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

New guy here from Calgary. Found this site through a sister site The Jalopy Journal. I'm into older cars, currently have a 1950 Chev and a 1964 Fairlane. I need a place to work on them so I'm going to be building my first garage this spring. Looks like it will be about 20' in depth and 26' in...
