I really like the forced air unit that I just installed in my shop. I plan to add A/C this spring.

Shop heater dilemma, which route should I take?

A little follow- up: It's freakin' cold outside! I went out in the shop and turned on the thermostat and in less than 30 minutes, it was 52 degrees in the shop. So far, I'm very happy with my furnace. I still need to install some ducting, and that should help this thing warm up even faster.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I just mounted this little guy on my new 1/2” plate workbench top today. It’s a 3 1/2” Fuller that’s made in Japan. Nothing special, but I got it for free and it works for what I plan do use it for.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

My retractable stair proof of concept works! This is a mock-up, but not far from what the finished product will look like. I’ll mount the electric hoist on a 5’ chain to drop the unit down, cut the junk off the bottom of the stair so it is level when lowered to the ground, then mount the top...

Yale Spur Geared Block chain hoist

I thought I’d share a couple of pictures of my Yale 1/2 ton chain hoist. I bought this at an auction several years ago. Does anyone have any idea when this was made?

The furnace project is nearing completion. I still need to hook up the propane line to the tank and have a buddy set the pressure. I also need to run a duct of some sort to direct heat to the rest of the building.

Shop heater dilemma, which route should I take?

I've decided to go ahead and order the LP kit for the forced air furnace. Luckily, I have a couple of friends who are licensed HVAC techs, so they're going to make sure I don't do something stupid. Now I just need to get to the store and pick up the roof jack, B-vent and a few fittings. My...

I was hoping it would make it easier to clean up oil spills. It is, but this sealer does not like gasoline. Gas is like paint thinner for this stuff - it dissolves it.

Shop heater dilemma, which route should I take?

Mark, thanks for your reply. I've been leaning hard toward #1, but I need some encouragement I suppose, That's one sweeeeet '56 you have there! My oldest kid and I have been working on a '56 Chevy 4 door sedan on and off for a few years. Started with a gutted body & frame, and now it will go...

Shop heater dilemma, which route should I take?

I spoke to my buddy last night about this. His co-worker (the HVAC dealer) did some calcs yesterday on my specific building and told me that the heat pump probably isn't the way to go, given my particular situation. I suppose I would be leaning on the heat strips pretty heavily, which would...

Shop heater dilemma, which route should I take?

I need to make a choice. Please see my build link for shop info. I'm in SE Kansas. We do get some cold weather here, but nothing like you folks up in MN have to deal with. Choice #1: I have a house furnace that is of ample size to heat my shop, but I would need to convert it to propane...

    The SK Tools Giveaway...

SK Tools are great! I use my SK line wrenches regularly, and I have yet to strip the head on a stubborn line nut with them. Dad has an SK 1/2 " drive socket set that he bought when he was in high school in the 1960s. Even after going through a shop fire, he still uses those tools (the ones...
