    Future tools to replace Craftsman

Thanks for the tip. That same socket that was $12 on the S-K site is $7 on Circle C's.

    That is one serious compressor.

    Future tools to replace Craftsman

Thanks. I would prefer to buy USA made if I can but yikes, S-K is proud of their stuff. I compared a 6 point 18mm standard depth 3/8 socket. Lowe's wants $4.48 for Craftsman. Tekton wants $5.50. S-K wants $12. Snap-On wants $19 so at least S-K is a bit of a bargain by comparison. I...

    Future tools to replace Craftsman

Old Craftsman would have been OK I think. Maybe I'm on the high end of home use. Recent Craftsman I find I'm cracking more sockets and wearing out more ratchets these days. That's a big part of the reason that I now have primary and backup sets of sockets. Now that I live where I can't...

Tekton seems like the answer. Is this some sort oh GJ record - a consensus within five posts? Thanks everyone.

    Future tools to replace Craftsman

So I've been organizing the garage. Most of my mechanics tools are Craftsman - that's what Dad always bought. I have a smattering of other brands when it was too hard to get to a Sears store back in the day. Anyhow, I'm missing some sockets from my extra sets. Have a few worn out ratchets...

    Automatic Compressor Tank Drain

I noticed the BSP threads on the ads. There was a complaint on Amazon about the thing leaking and I believe it's due to the threads. There are BSP->NPT adapters out there - just something to keep in mind if you went with one. I haven't been able to find one with NPT threads out of the box.

Saw these on ebay and Amazon. Has yours worked for you?

    Compressor bushing question

Don't have anything to add other than I think I bought the same compressor earlier this week. Was wondering about those bungs and how difficult they might be to remove down the road for inspections. I'll be watching the thread to see how things turn out.

New Compressor - setting it up

Thanks for all the advice. Been out of town for a funeral. I have some projects to work on - compressor is on the list but not I priority. I hope to get it at least partially hooked up over the next three days.

New Compressor - setting it up

Any idea why IR doesn't like it? I can see maybe not liking lead/tin but they seem to rule out any soldered joints. I guess brazing the copper is an option. I've done a little brazing but I'd be an expert by the time I finished running air lines in the shop if every joint had to be brazed.

New Compressor - setting it up

Thanks guys. I like that rubber under the pump idea. Noticed the tank rings like a bell already. I have an out of town funeral to go to this week so nothing's going to happen until after the holiday. First step is making a place for it, second is wiring. Then I'll probably hook up a drain...

New Compressor - setting it up

Actually, if I had known about the casting flash issues in Chrysler 2.7s, yes, I would have taken the new engine apart rather than waiting for it to grenade after the warranty was expired if it were a car I wanted to keep for the rest of my life. I'm admittedly weird that way. I'd be looking...

New Compressor - setting it up

Already have more questions... The outlet is 3/4, but there's a bushing and a 1/2 valve. I'm guessing using a 3/4 valve would be better along with using 3/4 for all the lines. But the 3/4 thread is in a (2in") bushing, so I could presumably replace that and go with something larger. But then...

New Compressor - setting it up

Finally managed to justify a new compressor. Got the 80 gallon 5hp IR that Tractor Supply carries. It was a sudden decision (it's my Christmas present) and since the colder weather has set in I'm probably not going to set it up completely right away. Looking for suggestions on things I might...

Do two air compressors ever make sense?

Just a follow up on the Kobalt compressors at Lowes. The pump on the 60 gallon and 80 gallon models has the same model number. Pulley size is different on the motor and presumably the 80gallon motor has a higher HP capacity.

Ryan on TV (I know it's likely been discussed)

Many thanks Zeke. I didn't know about the movie and I'm a Prime member so it's now on my watchlist. You'd think with the level of detail Amazon and Google have obtained about me to this point, Amazon would have already recommended this movie. Nope. Instead they recommend cr@p I wouldn't...

Do two air compressors ever make sense?

Interesting. I had some similar thoughts with the check valves. It's also why, at least to me, two identical compressors made sense. If one of the check valves ever fails, you aren't potentially back feeding a small compressor from a large one. That would seem to have destructive "boom"...
