Do two air compressors ever make sense?

I may be looking at getting a new compressor. Budget is about $1000-1200. Looking at two-stage 220v single phase 80 gallon models. The Kobalt at Lowes and the IR at Tractor Supply both fit the bill for around $1000 (IR at TSC is on sale). I can get both of these locally without any shipping...

    Workbench depth

I have a long wall with four benches. I have pegboard behind all of them to hold tools. Three of them are 24" which makes it easy to reach tools. They're also sized to be comfortable working while standing. I keep things like grinder, bench press on these. The fourth is something closer to...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

You could get some unistrut and the trolley they sell and hang the cabinets from two sections of unistrut. That would let you pull the cabinet foreward and push it back, plus you could make the bottom of the cabinet higher than the work surface below it, potentially meaning you could pull the...

    Mystery Steering Wheel #2

Check out this link: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/grant-gt-steering-wheel Doesn't show them, but the listing show the wheel there has markings similar to what your pic shows - "made in ital" with a month/year date stamp. That listing says it's a Grant wheel.

    Found a Dalton Metal Lathe

I have a Dalton lot 5 that I picked up from my Dad last fall. I think he got it from the school system where he worked. Right now it's just sitting in my garage waiting for some love. Has some grey paint slathered on it. The gear cover is cracked and crudely repaired. But I have buckets of...

    Excavation/building next to pole barn

Most likely I'd do it myself. Hadn't thought about the moisture but that's a good consideration. Although I'm already fighting the constant moisture already. West Virginia is a pretty humid state - we're basically surrounded by water due to the terrain. One day I'd like to get the pole barn...

    Excavation/building next to pole barn

Been Googling and can't seem to find an answer - all I get is how to excavate for a pole barn. We have a pole barn. I don't know how the posts were set, but I assume they're just sunk in the dirt/clay. It sits on the edge of a flat area that drops off on two sides behind it. Long term my...

    Rewiring 100 amp panel

Are there any code issues with putting them inside? They would be within 12" of the edge of the slab. It's a pole building I'd eventually like to add interior walls onto. Within six inches would put them inside the wall cavity. At about 8-12", they'd be just in front of the future walls.

    Rewiring 100 amp panel

I was thinking of busting a hole in the slab near the wall, driving the rod into the ground, burying it after the conductor was attached and pouring concrete over it with the line sticking out. I'd never heard of this being done before, which is why I posted the question. I knew the rods could...

    Rewiring 100 amp panel

Thanks WyliesDiesels. Everything makes sense to me. All my water lines are various plastics. I have 100lb propane tanks for the stove and dryer - all the other utilities are electric, although we're considering having a permanent propane tank installed with hard lines so I'll keep the bonding...

    Rewiring 100 amp panel

PO of our house left a little to be desired in his installations. I'm trying to fix a few things and would like to get confirmation that I'm on the right track. We don't have code inspections here in this part of WV so I'm on my own. Our house has underground service. The transformer is...

House Wrap Old Garage Before Vinyl Siding?

I have to do some work on my garage, prior to winter hopefully. Some vinyl siding was never installed and the rest installed on osb without any barrier. My three choices seem to be Tyvek wrap, Lowe's version which is woven, or tar paper. Is one better or worse than the others?

To construct workbench into wall studs or not?

I think how you plan on using the bench will drive some of the decision. In my case, I have one I built 15 years ago. 4x7, heavy, four large posts, about waist high, lagged to the wall. This is where my vise is. I do my general heavy, dirty work here. Cutting, beating, heavy stuff. Lower...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

Thank you for this. I have one of those dual cylinder Mapp/o2 torches. The bottles are always flopping around and falling over. With this info I can make a little rack that will make my life a lot easier. Maybe I'll slit the pipe lengthwise, weld in some tabs and a bolt with a wingnut to...

    Razor Blade Sharpeners...

I did that once. Tore the wall out in the stairwell behind the bathroom medicine cabinet. Being halfway down the stairwell put the cabinet about eye level when a waterfall of used double-sided razor blades cascaded down onto my forearms. Somehow I didn't end up with any of them impaled in...

Found this cleaning out my parents place.

I have an old Dykes somewhere, unless my wife tossed it. Loved to page through it as a kid. Lots of good info from back in the day. Edit: just went to the bookshelf and found my copy. Mine's the 1942 edition. Outside looks identical. Haven't opened that book in 30 years but now I gotta...

Teng Tools - The Roadside Tool Kit

For a good chunk of my life, this tool set would have cost almost as much as the car I would have been putting it into. Even now I have a hard time shelling out $300 for something that's there for "just in case". Not saying it's not a quality set. Just not something I'm in the market for at...

    HF 60 gallon compressor

I was looking for compressor recently. Had a change in priorities for now. However, Rural King, if there's one in your area, seemed to have good pricing as far as retail. I think they had a stripped down version of the two stage dewalt that seemed like a good value when I was looking.

    Turquoise paint

Nice work. The vise (at least how it appears on my monitor) looks to be about the same shade as the color I got from Lowes. I have a couple cans on the shelf. Haven't had a day warm enough to paint yet where I didn't have another project that took priority. Hopefully soon I'll spray...

    Second story lift/crane?

That won't help if the cable or it's attachment to the platform fails.
