Air-Conditoner Went Into The Garage Today.

Mr. Cool says to just coil up any extra lineset that is excess. I personally think it looks like a hack. Indeed the Oasis ES did require professional final connection, vac, leak check and startup, or the warranty is invalid. I paid a neighbor that's an HVAC tech $100 and now have the proper...

Max hanging weight on brick siding?

Super clean install. I think that you might have screwed yourself though, if it ever needs service. The inverter/control board require access through the top on my Mr. Cool unit. If the Mitsubishi is the same then access is going to be very tight. ;)

    Need AC recomendation

Measure the voltage on the output side of the contactor. A failed contactor will prevent both from running. You can pick up a new one pretty cheap at DA Warden there in Georgetown, if you find that's the problem. They're a DIY-friendly shop. I've bought parts there and had them build...

    Costco - Mr Cool DYI

That's one of their best features. I have found my outdoor unit completely off when the outdoor temp is cool enough. But having the indoor fan always running on low keeps the space more evenly comfortable. My 1.5-ton Mr. Cool is drawing around 25 watts in that mode. My garage is now more...

    Exhaust fan search

You need to know the "net-free area" of those vents. You can't use the size of the hole for the measurement. Quite a bit of the area is taken up by the grille and screen. For example, Home Depot lists a 16x8 soffit vent that one might assume has 128 square inches available. But the spec...

    Costco - Mr Cool DYI

Unless something has changed in the last few weeks, the DIY units only come with a 25 foot lineset.

Lowes Sale 4' LED bulbs 4 pack $5

Even with the help of one of the workers climbing up and down the ladder, searching everything he could find, we couldn't find any 4-packs of the 4000K bulbs. Ended up buying a 16-pack for $17.23. $1.07 per bulb. The original price was $68 or so. They seem to be slightly longer than...

    Pioneer Garage install in Houston.

I just fired up my Mr. Cool 18K unit in a 2-car garage last week. With it set at 76 degrees, the garage feels cooler than the house, which is set at 75. These things eat humidity. My drain tube was running like a faucet when first started. :) The indoor fan has 12 speeds. It runs even at...

Air-Conditoner Went Into The Garage Today.

Wondered what? Several of us on here are using Mr. Cool heat pumps. I went with the Oasis ES model, rather than the DIY series, as I didn't want the excess lineset coiled up in the backyard. The unit is damn near silent (both inside and out) and keeps the garage super comfy.

Bag of putty with pioneer install?

If you ever have the need to pull the inside wall unit for service, you'll be cussing yourself if you use silicone. ;) Just use the putty. It seals fine, doesn't dry out and is easy to remove if ever required. :)

Standby Generator What is the install cost

Be sure to keep your propane tank filled during hurricane season. Running that beast 24 hours a day will **** down a startling amount of propane. Also keep in mind that propane tanks can only be filled to 80% of rated capacity, so your 500 gallon tank really has only 400 gallons when "full"...

    outdoor motion security lights

I have a few of those Cotsco LED motion lights as well. They work quite well and are very bright. I ran 14/3 wire between 2 of them and rewired them so that if either sensor detects motion then both units light up. You can't move anywhere in our backyard at night without it lighting up like a...

Are plastic line set covers waterproof?

Was out looking at my new lineset and duct yesterday and thought of this thread. The inside AND outside of the duct were wet, from condensation forming on the insulation of the lineset and on the duct. Makes me think that making the duct waterproof would be a bad idea. ;) (And that...

    Replacement transformer

What Trey said. I always keep a spare contactor and cap on hand. They always seem to fail on Friday at 5:30 PM of a 3-day weekend. ;)

Dont buy from heat and cool.com

I hope you paid with a credit card. If so, contest the charge with the CC company and have them reverse the charge.

    Ducted mini-split???

Trane makes a ducted mini-split. It looks like a typical updraft furnace and uses a fan that is designed to deal with the high static pressure of a ducted system. I don't know the cost, but I would expect it to be quite high. Trane is pretty proud of their stuff and I've never seen any of the...

Air-Conditoner Went Into The Garage Today.

You can't see the refrigerant lines in that outside shot. They're come in behind the unit and attach at the lower, right hand side. The line that you can see is the main electrical power to the unit. There are 2 refrigerant lines and one electrical cable that connect between the indoor and...

Routing air from crawl space to outside condenser

Unless you do this with distilled water, I'm pretty sure that you would end up with a mineral encrusted coil before too long. Not exactly cost effective. :(

    Drum brake locks up

My experience has been that oiled brake linings tend to grab even harder when there is water on the road. :(

    Drum brake locks up

While it seems like oily brakes wouldn't work at all, oily drum brakes grab hard. Their self-actuating mechanism takes over and locks the wheel. The only fix is new shoes. :(
