    Wiring for HVAC

Yep, gotta have specs. You could wire for the 7.5 ton and still use those wires for a 5-ton, but not the other way around. The 7.5 almost certainly requires a heavier gauge wire. The installation manual (and the sticker on the outside unit) will list the info you need to feed it properly.

Minisplit v. Central HVAC (70 foot lineset & quality brands)

If you decide to go with a mini split, your lineset length is OK according to the Mr. Cool installation manual. Max allowable length varies, depending on the size of the unit. Here's the chart:

Who has best prices and tech help for minisplits im goin diy route

HVAC "warranty" work is mostly a hoax. What other industry forces you to pay (often exorbitant) labor costs when one of their products fail? My sister had a condenser fan motor replaced under warranty a few years ago. The labor charge was $500 for maybe an hour of work. But hey, the $75 fan...

The saga of the missing Mr. Cool mini-split

Is yours the DIY model? Mine is not DIY and it looks like going out the left side means that the lineset connection will be inside, behind the wall unit. I may end up doing it that way just to not have to shorten the lineset, since it will make for a longer run to the outside unit. Didn't get...

    Which mini split to buy?

Simply put, SEER is BTU/hr divided by Watts. The higher the SEER rating, the lower your electric bill will be. However, you have to carefully consider the extra cost of the higher SEER ratings and do the math to see if you will actually save enough in electricity costs to cover the extra up...

The saga of the missing Mr. Cool mini-split

Update: Within an hour of calling Ingram's to cancel my order I got a call from the local delivery company. They promised to have my shipment loaded on a truck first thing the next morning and out to me. Finally, at 8:30 AM on Thursday, it arrived (14 days after it arrived at their...

The saga of the missing Mr. Cool mini-split

They offered that. I said that I would come pick it up if they met me at the dock with $100, because part of the price I paid was for lift gate delivery to my house. :) The Averitt Express folks didn't seem to give a **** that they were wasting my time.

The saga of the missing Mr. Cool mini-split

Well, I'm shopping once again for a mini-split. The Mr. Cool Oasis ES that I placed an order for with Ingram's Water and Equipment back on May 22 was delivered by Averitt Express to the first stop on its journey, their local office/warehouse back on May 24. I thought that was great, the...

    Air Compressor On/Off switch Question

If you want to take it to the next level, there was another recent thread that talked about sometimes forgetting to turn off the compressor when leaving the garage/shop. Someone posted about having wired up a contactor that was powered from the lighting circuit so that when the lights are...

A/c Unit for a space with No drain

Portable a/c units are OK for spot cooling in a shop or something. In an enclosed space they don't work so well. Think about all of that hot air that is being blown outside. It has to come from somewhere. It comes from sucking hot, outside air through every opening in the structure because...

Started the Evaporative cooler in the shop- review.

Here's a chart that shows the effectiveness of evaporative cooling at a wide range of temps and humidity. In a very dry climate they work amazingly well.

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split, Seriously, I Think...

I ended up ordering a Mr. Cool Oasis ES model. I really didn't want that 25 foot lineset of the DIY unit coiled up in my backyard. The Oasis has a few more features, a higher SEER rating, a shorter lineset (that can even be easily shortened, if required) and the same 5/7 year warranty on parts...

    Hot Shop Question.

    That's why I bought a unit that has a 5-year parts warranty and 7-year compressor warranty. :)

    Hot Shop Question.

I did the math before purchasing. Window shakers seem to mostly be rated at 10 SEER. The difference in electricity cost between one of those and a 21 SEER mini-split makes up the initial cost difference in 3 years in this area. After that you're ahead of the game. The payback comes even...

    Hot Shop Question.

Ordered a Mr. Cool Oasis ES, 18,000 BTU. https://iwae.com/shop/18k-btu-21-seer-mrcool-oasis-es-ductless-heat-pump-split-system-wall-mounted-ha11840.html The garage is about 20x24, ceiling is 9.5 feet. Around here we have to deal with heat and an incredible amount of humidity. I can't wait...

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split, Seriously, I Think...

The sweet thing about inverter systems is that going slightly too big isn't a problem. Standard a/c systems just shut off when the temp set point is reached. If they're oversized then they don't run long enough to dehumidify the air properly. You end up with a cool, clammy space. Mini-splits...

    Hot Shop Question.

I prefer it blowing directly on me, to get a bit of "wind chill". ;) But I'm almost done with working in the heat. The mini-split a/c for my garage is supposed to arrive on Monday. :)

    Framing Nails 3-1/2

You're half right. ;) If you lay the base of the nail gun against the lumber, the nail will indeed go in at a 21 degree angle.
