    Hello from Chicago

Hello! Born in Chicago, grew up in Elmhurst, now live in Louisiana. Like it here except no basements when tornado warnings come (and also no tornado sirens - wtf Shreveport??) Show us some pictures of your garage if you can!

It's time - RIP Rhino ramps

I did think about how I could keep them away from 'pickers'; if I can stuff them in my garbage can so it can be closed and no one can see them from the road I'll do that, because the garbage truck has a grabber that picks up the cans and dumps them into the truck and then they'll be gone -- not...

It's time - RIP Rhino ramps

Noticed a crack in the corner of one of my Rhino ramps - the only set of good jack stands I have are currently occupied by a car, but I needed a couple for a different car so I put the first car on the rhino ramps so I could borrow the jack stands. While I was crawling around under the second...

Milton tire air fitting you didn’t know you need for inflating.

lol, I'm glad it's not one evil tire shop messing with me. Altho I know that isn't the case, because I just bought a nearly-new non-Ford car from a Ford dealer, and they did a nice job of detailing it, including putting the stuff on the tires to make them shiny. But guess what they didn't do...

Milton tire air fitting you didn’t know you need for inflating.

Is this why when I get my tires worked on by the Firestone closest to my house, two tires always come back at around 65 psi? If so it all works out tho because the other two typically are at 15 psi....

Just for fun, if you are of a certain age- do you still have any of your first tools?

I didn't get my first tools until 1981 when I was a freshman in college. I had bought a bike at a police auction and it was in pretty rough shape, no doubt stolen and then fished out of a creek with the shopping carts and corpses. But it was a smoking deal and, in my world, the pinnacle of...

    Stolen Tools

I think you're right that the thieves in this case would have been aware of typical tracking software and taken precautions. So the either the person who got them caught used something very unusual, or they stole so much stuff so fast that they couldn't check it all for tracking devices...

    Stolen Tools

The article says they busted the thieves because one of the victims had a tracking device in one of the tools that was stolen. Any guesses as to what type of tracking device? I see things like this...

    Tools Needed for this job

You can do it!! My suggestions: 1. Watch as many videos on doing brakes on your car as you can find. 2. Make sure you have the tools that you'll need, based on the videos you've watched. 3. Get a Chilton's/Haynes manual or a factory service manual (FSM) - normally I'd recommend the FSM...

    Let's See Your Garage Dog

I guess I have a garage dog now too, or at least a carport dog - meet Blue: In that second picture I had borrowed her blanket to prop my head up while I was looking at something but as soon as I turned my back she reclaimed it. We first met in my carport a year ago in February; I stepped out...

What Tools have you Broke? What Caused them to Break?

1/2" to 3/8" adapter - helping someone change a flat tire, had a 1/2" breaker bar but only 3/8" socket; the tools had been sitting in an unheated garage in central IL in the middle of winter. The adapter broke in half on the first lug nut. Lesson learned: now I put little gadgets like that in...

    $1400 Breaker Bar?

Well, you have a friend in northwest Louisiana if you ever come by this way -- we'll sip some excellent scotch and shake our heads over the tragic decline of civilization and the scope of human depravity!

    $1400 Breaker Bar?

Anyone who would use any level as a hammer should be put in jail. Even an HF level. I hope you don't know anyone who would even consider such a thing, let alone do it. I thought I had the trashiest friends in the world because they put diet coke into single malt scotch....

Unique issue, best and lightest floor jack??

Well, at least you have Mabel and someday you'll get better stuff to replace what the dirtballs stole. The 2.5 T jack is $40 off with an Inside Track Club membership, which is $29.99 for a year and gets you more discounts. One of those times when the ITC membership pays for itself. Good luck...
