Easy to say for someone else’s project, but man does it feel like it’s going quickly. Kudos. Looks great.

In the market for a sliding table

All thanks for the input and ideas. @loganb a CNC is increasingly appealing. @jar944 thanks for the tip on splitting a sheet lengthwise. I’ve never seen that done but it makes a lot of sense and quickly gets to more manageable sizes. I’ll experiment. I’ve got more boxes to build in short order.

In the market for a sliding table

I’ve spent the last couple days chopping up ten sheets of plywood and would love a system that is easier on the body and still yields cabinet-quality results. What I have right now: - Festool tracksaw and 9’ fence for ripping - Festool MFT table for cross cutting - Sawstop cabinet saw that I...

    Olsen Spec Projects

@olsenmotorsports A turn to the everyday: do you have a recommended fix for leaking valve covers on your more run-of-the mill aircooled 911? I’m hoping to capitalize (selfishly) on your o-ring debacle. Knowing you have preferences that verge on fetishism for sealants, German manufacturers...

    Dream Tool(Machine)?

Sliding table saw. Absolute game changer for comfort and control for sheet goods and wonky hardwood, but requires a space commitment I’m not yet ready to make.

Mexico > Mudding. Enjoy the trip and kudos for pushing through the project inertia. Years ago, I met a guy who had two pristine vintage Volvos in his garage that he had done full nut and bolt restorations on. I asked him for any secrets and he said, “I commit to doing an hour a day of...

@R_C thabks for continuing to share. I look forward to your she-shed build this summer. There is a lot to appreciate about building a small structure, because it afford the option of going very quickly, or taking time and getting the details right. I have a long list of small cabins I’d love to...

I didn’t know you had a 911 in the stable. Kudos. I’ve delayed bringing my ‘75 to the mountains of CA only for fear of net getting the jetting settings right for 6200’ Some tips re electrical: - I’d ask the sparky to rub at least 2 of the 220 circuits in 6 gauge AWG to handle a 60 amp circuit...

Above 1200 Sq/FT From Urban Pie Factory To Mountain Barn

Wholeheartedly agree. I snuck out both days while kiddo napped. My wife is 6.5 months pregnant and was entirely encouraging with the line: “at least one of us should enjoy the skiing.” Say no more. I did 15k vertical feet Monday and nearly 18k Tuesday in 2.5 hour chunks hunting fresh and soft...

Brief update and transplanting tools Friends, strangers, and countrymen: The last five or six weeks has been beautifully uneventful. I can’t remember if I’d previously posted, but I passed my final inspection with flying colors. Lake Tahoe got a series of storms end of February and early March...

Good on you for rescuing the 2002, which was might be described as “partially composted.” Your friend may thank you or begrudge you for aiding and abetting in years to come.

I’m a big fan of the RevoPly. What did you use for a finish? I did a spray poly and I’m not in love with the results. Your’s has a great tone to it.

@badonk congrats on the progress and thanks for updating the thread for strangers’ entertainment. 2 cents worth of opinion and experience for sensors and systems based on my recent build, and living in the nanny state of CA. All new residential construction in CA (with only a handful of...

Nicely done with ye olde ratchet strap hoist and kudos on the progress. When you have a moment to breath, I’m curious about your drill press and other vintage curios you’ve got on the bench.

Nice work on the drywall. I’ve been slowly going through the house skim coating over poorly applied texture from a previous owner. It’s not as bad as a motel 6 popcorn ceiling, but the wall pustules don’t scream “quality.” Trouble is, I’ve found I thoroughly enjoy the mudding and scraping to...

Lovely progress and update. I delight in using a mill on wood; it feels like I’m bringing a canon to a battle normally waged with swords (or chisels.) One idle thought from the grandstands: if you had a rotary table you could bypass hogging out the material with a forstner and jump right to an...

Let there be light! @bgt was inquiring about the lights. So, I’ll opine. I know several furniture makers who struggled for years doing bespoke furniture and then switched over to crafting custom lights quite successfully. There are several reasons, but the crux of it comes down to: making...
