Holding pipe vises in a bench vise

I find it depends on what I'm doing. The only bench vise I own with pipe jaws is a Parker 289 1/2 combo vise. For shorter lengths of pipe, the Parker is good. However for long stuff, since my vise doesn't swivel, I'm limited to how long of pipe I can hold. With my pipe vise, I can postion it...

Holding pipe vises in a bench vise

I made this base to hold my pipe vise in a bench. Nothing fancy, just 1/4" plate welded to 2" round stock. I did it this way so the pipe vise can be rotated anyway I want since none of my bench vises swivel.

Looking for 20T press w/ Gauge (not made in China)?

Little surprised that Nugier is getting mention so much. Kind of thought I was about the only one with with one. Personally I have 50 ton I bought on an auction. Awesome press. I was really surprised when I looked up how much a new one is, they make Dake look cheap.

Looking for 20T press w/ Gauge (not made in China)?

About the cheapest new "USA" made press are the ones Northern sell. For years they were sold under the Carolina name, but I think they call them Arcan now. For what you want, you will have to look at the 30 ton as the 20 ton is the bottle jack style.

New saw: Rancher 460 or MS311

When I was shopping it came down to Stihl and Husky and it was a tough decision. I found a dealer who sold both so I was able to really side by side compare. I ended up with the Husky because I felt it was a little better balanced in the hands and it took the same chain as the saw I replacing...

Tell me what you like & don't like about your US General tool box

My only complaint with the 44" box is a combination of the drawer liners and the drawer detents. The box has very firm detents. On one hand nice as you can roll the box around on level ground without locking it. Downside is to get the detends to catch, you have to give the drawer some umpff to...

    New Mac Air hammer MPH1911?

I don't have any of the nonturning bits so I can't say. Regular mac bits overs seem pretty good at least that I haven't noticed any problem with them. I have a lot of bits and back when I bought the hammer, I just tossed them in with the other ones so I don't ever really know which brand I'm...

    New Mac Air hammer MPH1911?

I have the mac air hammer and it does everything I expect out of .401 air hammer. Not experience with the matco hammer to say how they compare.

How do you store misc stuff like fuel line & connectors?

Pretty much all shop supplies are in this cabinet at home. At work I keep random stuff scattered in each drawer of my box, but I try to watch it these days based on how much I saved in the past just to toss out later.

    *New Craftsman Tool Chest*

I want to say I have seen deeper mid boxes on display at the difference stores that have craftsman now. Thinking about it, I dont think I have seen them recently.

    4x6 Horizontal Bandsaw Options

I'm going to way blow your budget by a mile, but I'm figuring on one of these days of buying a Jet 5×7 mitering bandsaw for around $1000, hopefully a little less on sale. To me it looks like a nice jump up from the standard 4x6 and the ease of doing angles.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

Rather annoyed the Icon 1/2" drive metric impacts set have a useless 26mm socket, but skip 24mm. Other than that they are pretty nice.

Wright Grip 2 vs. Williams Super Combo?

No experience with the supercombo, but I have the Wright in both sae and metric. They are pretty much my favorite wrenches.

    Menard’s ditching Craftsman?

Other than toolboxes I didn't notice much for craftsmans other than a little here or that. Not that I ever saw a big display of craftsman at any Menards to being with. On a side note, maybe just end of the Christmas season, but Lowe's had craftsman boxes on pretty deep discount so if anyone is...

I would have considered GW, but it isn't really carried in many stores around here and I already made the rounds to enough stores, I was done looking. Prior to the Milwaukee set, I was liking the Menards masterforce 1/4" set, until I saw it was all 12pt sockets.

From my shopping around I felt the Icon was a pretty good bang for the buck compared to the offerings at other stores. The Icon wrenches are freaking cheap compared to what Milwaukee wants for their wrenche sets. I did buy a Milwaukee 1/4" set because it was the best set I found, but still...

In a perfect world this would have been a nice set of SK, Wright and Proto, but that doesn't fit the need. While the box will be pretty much just mine to use this winter, once the ground crew is back, it is a community box for all to use. The Icon individual sets average around $60 and I bought...

Took a side job this winter with a golf course to go through all their equipment. Part of the job is getting the shop is shape and properly setup. While the shop itself is nice, some decent shop equipment and pretty well supplied, the tools were the most hodge podge picked over sad assortment...
