    Fleet 1/2" drive ratchet

Fleet was a brand produced by Penens Corporation (trademarked in 1947 as "Fleet Quality Tools"). Penens itself had been purchased by Plomb in the early 1940's. The Plomb and Proto pages at Alloy Artifacts, has info on the large Plomb/Proto/Pendleton family of tools: Plomb -...

Reminder: Westling Machine New Year's Day Event

Free shipping appears to kick in when $99 or more of product is purchased. I added an extra 3/8 to my full set order for a total of $102 and some change and got free shipping. When I first went to check-out with just the $89 full set, I was seeing the $10 shipping charge as well. FYI, their...

Want to Support a Small USA Company With a Cool Product?

Just ordered a full set and an extra 3/8" SAE. Been really disappointed in the Hansens I bought - too many sockets won't fit over the posts (Snappys and Wrights). Besides, looking at sockets with their @ss ends waving in the air just doesn't work for me... Assuming these look and work as well...

Poll on how to prounce PLOMB

Ditto rhymes with bomb - 'course you're seeing this from someone that pronounces "Baltimore, Maryland" as "Bawmer, Merlnd", and carries a few bottles of wutr with him when marking timber...

Is A ESCO RHFT the same as a Craftsman?

A third handle style is unique to the Armstrong version, namely Armstrong's sculpted and fully chromed handle.

Is A ESCO RHFT the same as a Craftsman?

Yup. Well actually the question should be "Is the RHFT Craftsman the same as the EASCO?" since EASCO held the patent and produced 'em for Sears. Some also prefer the rounded handle over the squared of the Craftsman.

    I.D. these ratchets

Nope, Walden is long gone. What's wrong? Slipping or just rough? Often, a thorough cleaning and fresh quality lube can work wonders on these old coarse toothed ratchets.

Top 5 ratchets of all time

A little late to the party, but hey, it's a tough question that could be answered so many different ways! I took a little different approach by looking at designs/patents that have been highly successful, long running, and/or popular or IMHO seem to have influenced other later designs/patents...

    Finally broke down & bought an Dual 80 - How'd I do?

Been meaning to get some new pics for a long time, but pulling out 400+ ratchets from the numerous drawers they're packed into (and clearing off enough space to line them up, with enough light for decent pics) isn't as quick and easy as it might sound. The old (old, old) thread pics will have...

    Finally broke down & bought an Dual 80 - How'd I do?

Paying anywhere near this much for a ratchet is extremely rare for me, but I finally had to scratch an itch I've had to buy a Dual 80. How'd I do? http://www.ebay.com/itm/180891412191?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_517wt_1270 I don't usually pursue Snappys (or Macs or...

    Grease or oil for ratchet?

As far as the tools go, I've got the Matco (graciously sent to me by a member here) and the Snap-On versions, and prefer the Matco at the moment. They're a little different from each other, and each has positives and negatives. The biggest plus they both have in common is that they're...

    Grease or oil for ratchet?

While RLL (the "Red Lube of Love" - don't ask, just blame Merk) can work wonders for medium and coarse toothed ratchets (not so good for ultra fine ones), it has one major annoying (IMHO) feature - it bleeds. AND bleeds, and bleeds, and bleeds, and bleeds, and bleeds...... I hit a few of mine...

    RHFT Craftsman

One more respectful opinion, if you're interested. $10, $15, & $20 each, by size +shipping, would not be unreasonable, maybe a little more for really nice ones. The last nice 1/2" Craftsman I picked up at the flea market was $12; I recently fished a very nice 1/2" KD branded version out of...

FWIW, The 1/2" Martin ratchet I recently got was sourced from Wright.

    Ward Master Tools

That's a Wright sourced ratchet design - patented 1955 A.P. Stone for Wright Tool and Forge. I've seen a few different knob styles, some held with a screw like yours, others smaller without a screw.

Question about COO for two tools, Ratchet and Locking Pliers.

That ratchet was sourced from Thorsen. For whatever reason, it seems Monkey Wards either didn't request or didn't care about COO getting stamped on ratchets (at least ratchets is all I know about). None of the PowrKraft ratchets I have, sourced from Thorsen and Wright, have COO on them.

    Unique Craftsman Ratchet?

Dave (MrCraftsman), Quick question - can you tell me what year this Craftsman New Britain Fors patent ratchet was available?
