    Lets see your workbench

Workbenches are made from craigslist office furniture stripped and painted to match my hunter green master force tool chests which just happen to be in the other garage still. Diamond plate will eventually cover the bottom 5.5" as well as act as mud board along the walls. Tops are 2 layers of...

    garage fans

I like that wall mount oscillating fans. Even if you have a mini-split the fans help to move all the air around; especially if you get more than one. Because of cost I got two of the 14" Ironton oscilating wall mount fans from northern tool. $70 plus with the use of their coupons it comes it...

    10/3 to A/C disconnect

It is a 240 volt circuit made from 2 120 legs each of which is 30 amps so a 60 amp disconnect is appropriate. 60 amps is necessary for the A/C condenser. And yes, the 2 breakers are connected.

    10/3 to A/C disconnect

Thanks. Connecting the white to the neutral in the panel and capping at the disconnect is the full answer i was looking for.

    10/3 to A/C disconnect

Thanks for confirming what I've been reading elsewhere.

    10/3 to A/C disconnect

When I roughed in I ran 10/3 + ground from the panel to where I plan to install a 60 amp disconnect. The breaker is a double 30 amp breaker that I plan to use the black and red wires for the hot, the copper will go to ground, but I'm not sure what to do with the white. I've been reading that I...

    Show me your garage fans

I just picked up this 14" oscillating wall mount fan: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200641086_200641086 I was looking for an old fan and this seems to have that nostalgic look I wanted. I went with the smaller fan because it is mostly just going to move the A/C or heat around...

    Lets see your workbench

Awesome results, especially for someone that has never built something like this. When I did my first workbench like this (20+ years ago) my results were only 1/2 as good as yours. The problem I had was that the construction grade plywood I used (like yours) wasn't straight and it resulted in me...

    Workbench upgrade

That is exactly what I considered doing. How thick or what gauge did you have it made from? Any issues with denting? I was thinking 14 or 12 gauge might be the right thickness. I looked at trying to recycle some food stuff off CL but it seems it really wasn't all that much cheaper than buying...

    steel workbench top

The stainless used on food prep tables appears to generaly be 16 gauge but working food prep is clearly not as demanding as a workbench might require. It sounds like I should plan for at least 12 gauge. Thanks for all the feed back.

    steel workbench top

I'm building a couple of new benches for the garage addition and keep thinking about wrapping a solid wood core with stainless steel and wondered what folks thought about that and if anybody has any suggestions. I like the idea of a metal top for both durability as well as being able to clean up...

    In ceiling speakers?

I'd agree with that but for some reason it seems the trend in the industry is to go smaller. I remember when monster cables came out they must have been 10 gauge fine stranded wire. They really held up great and ton's better than any other speaker cable I've ever come across. Per what I've...

    In ceiling speakers?

I put ceiling speakers in the new garage addition which allows me to compare them nicely with the box speakers in the original garage. I also have ceiling/wall speakers throughout the house. I really like that the ceiling speakers make for a much cleaner look and keep wires out of site. I also...

Is there a list or guide for the steps used to build a garage?

What I learned, 1) Ask for lots of bids, find out nobody wants to work and so your lucky if you get 2 2) Work with the GC/designer to answer your questions. Realize later that they don't really have a lot to offer or they would be doing work for somebody else. 3) Get bids and when you manage to...

    Are electricians that busy?

Around here (MN) it is not just the electricians but all the trades. I started on my addition November 2013, the actual hole didn't get dub until Oct 2014, they put the last of the roof on in January, and the stucco won't happen until spring sometime. When I called for heat I solicited for 6...

Receptacles; arrange as quad or duplex?

On my first garage I placed single boxes (single duplex outlet) every 6' about 4' off the ground and it wasn't enough. The biggest issue was that when working in any one area the two outlets would sometimes be full so I'd have to go 6' to the next outlet. It also didn't lend itself to high use...

NG Forced Air Heater - Install price shock and question

Here is what the ductwork looks like in both garages as well as the hanging furnace. Sheetrock is completed (still needs tape, mud, paint) and ceiling insulation is blown. It is nice and toasty in there now :)

NG Forced Air Heater - Install price shock and question

Why do you say that? This is not the furnace from the house; it is separate and there is nothing common between the garages and the house. The original garage is attached with fire rated wall and all the other code requirements. I had a HD60 in it originally as well as a split A/C unit and...

NG Forced Air Heater - Install price shock and question

I just had a 80000 btu horizontal ng furnace and ac installed with round ductwork running into my original garage and my new addition for 5700 but all my other quotes were in excess of 10000 :O My gas was already run so this guy only charged 100 to move it to the new furnace; others quoted a...

    Ebay led lighting?

I too ordered a test lamp and decided against it because there was no UL marking. Since then I read more about the CE vs. UL listings and I believe CE is tougher than UL. The light is nice but in the end I went with a bunch of fluorescents and 5 regular down cans that I put LED bulbs in.
