Amazon Deals on New Retail Items - Post them!

Full rather windy story. As I walked past a neighbor I saw he couldn't get the rotor off to replace the front drive axle. I didn't get real close (fence between us) but from about 10 feet away it looked like the center of the screw was stripped out deeply, almost like drilled part way through...

Amazon Deals on New Retail Items - Post them!

Not a "deal" per se, but these are not too expensive but handy to have and they do dig in well. Last week I loaned mine to a neighbor to extract the rotor screws from hell that Honda and others use. The old pound in a torx bit didn't hack it...

    Quinn Socket Packaging...WTF?

After sliding the sockets off of the rail (on the HF sockets I bought), I drove the plastic pieces out of the sockets with a pin punch. PITA packaging.

    Lowes deals/sales/clearance

I keep a couple of hardware assortments for SAE and metric and supplement with lock washers, locknuts etc that aren't included. It doesn't totally eliminate trips. Ace Hardware is way across town and generally a PITA trafficwise. Agree about HD and Blowes so they're not even on my radar, but my...

What's a good impact wrench that won't break the bank?

If you want a compact without breaking the bank. I believe it is comparable/maybe same as an Aircat. Here on ebay it's selling for ~1/3 of Home depots price. Can't complain too much at $39.99. https://www.ebay.com/itm/176821567383

    Road Trip Jack Recommendations?

I just ordered one of these mini hydraulic jacks which is to be delivered Wednesday. It resembles a (made in Taiwan) Sears/ Craftsman branded jack I bought in 1985 because the jack that came with my new VW Jetta was pitiful and dangerous. It fit in a 16" metal toolbox carried in the trunk. It...

    Spark Plug Socket Insert

Maybe just buy new sockets with a spring clip or magnet to retain the plug which alleviates rubber disintegration problem.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I didn't think of that angle. I'll have to scrutinize their return policy. Whatever HF decides I hope they treat you right or at least give some satisfaction.

Question about Torque Multiplier for removing/installing commercial truck lug nuts.

Are you referring to a gear reduction torque multiplier or just an extension that fits on the end of a torque wrench to give more leverage?

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I'd try to return it anyway, show them, and explain that it was defective from the get-go so the problems occurred in first use. Return policy whatever, defective is defective. I'd fight on this one. There used to be a thing called implied merchantability where the product should perform adequately.

    Asahi brand tools?

I bought my Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SLR in Japan at the Navy Exchange in the early '70's. My recollection is that Honeywell only marketed it in the USA but didn't own Asahi Optical Company. At the time some Pioneer electronics was sold in the USA under the Roberts name. And Japanese Victor...

    Lookee what I found!

Yea, that's similar to a Craftsman 0-150 I bought around 1972. I think they were made by Sturtevant -Richmont.

Changing out exterior door knob with rusted screws?

Phillips ****. Flat ***** worse. Both are a pox on humanity. Alternate internal wrenching head fasteners (Torx, Roberts/sq head etc.) should have been instituted for widespread use eons ago.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I agree. Unless I'm missing something it's best to have some part of the support point sitting in the "nock" of the saddle so the stand couldn't slide out even without much weight on it. And how hard is it to raise the vehicle and jack stand another notch so weight is on the stand when lowered...

Which soldering station - there's a million of em

I think the YIHUA would be a good choice for the occasional user for a couple reasons. 1) YIHUA has been around for some time and are a popular lower cost alternative. 2) It's roughly half the price of a HAKKO FX888D. 3) Like many things, HAKKO's have been counterfeited and the buyer has to be...

    Vevor Tools - Deaths Lawsuits

The lightweight construction and design is similar to the smaller (way over rated load capacity) jack stand that failed miserably in Project Farms testing. Starting at 6:25 in video. Just looking at the Vevor stands wouldn't inspire confidence to trust them anywhere near 2500 lb.

Visited the new Harbor Freight store today!

Oh, do you mean the black socket head cap screws with the SAE threads but take a metric Allen wrench. Wondered why the expected wrench wouldn't fit until looked closely and saw 8.8 marked on head.
