20+ years old Harbor Freight digital caliper

I got what you're saying and luckily not having to need extreme precision, in trying to confirm accuracy on my "inexpensive" digital calipers, and lacking a set of gage blocks, have resorted to stacking 1-2-3 blocks in various configurations to hit the 1-2-3-4-5-6 marks and "assume" (there's...

    Has anyone EVER used a 16mm or 18mm wrench/socket?

According to my dusty ol' memory it seems I used a 9mm on caliper bleed screws once upon a time.

    DC clamp meter?

As for patching holes in wire insulation with silicone, I remember reading a long time ago that the acetic acid (causes that sharp vinegar like smell) in silicone caulking can cause corrosion. I'd guess a pin hole's worth wouldn't do much though. Just passing it along for what it's worth.

Who makes these two torque wrenches?

I have used a black permanent marker like a Sharpie to highlight the numbers after using a degreaser/solvent. Still had to renew the black once or twice as time went on.

Did the unthinkable at Harbor Freight

We know Snap-On goes way beyond wrenches, sockets and toolboxes with their R&D, manufacturing and diagnostic equipment among others. And they aren't going out of business tomorrow. Just a bit of humor taking jabs mixed with a bit of truth. Actually, I've never before seen the broad range of...

    Another torque wrench question

Get a quality 1/4" or 3/8" drive in-lb torque wrench that goes to 200-250 in-lb full scale. Your torque value (89) is about mid scale then for good accuracy. After torqueing it to 89 then go an additional 1/6 turn which is the distance of one point on the head of a hex bolt. I wouldn't trust...

    Spindle Nut Socket Sets

Thank you. Now I can see there is a difference. Why do they do this **** (triple square) when 12 point exists. Able to withstand more torque before stripping , I guess.

    Spindle Nut Socket Sets

Seems like a good place here to ask a question. A few weeks ago a neighbor removed the front drive axle nut on his 2010 VW Passat when replacing the strut. After he finished I saw the nut looked a bit chewed up. I know he bought a socket but not what kind. Is that nut a tri-square or just 12...

Project Farm Digital Torque wrench test

Amen to that. Sometimes I play back at .75 speed to get it more tolerable. It also makes his voice a little less piercing but can sound too slow which is just as bad. But maybe there's hope as one of his latest sounded like normal speech.

Project Farm Digital Torque wrench test

All blather aside about lack of scientific testing rigor, sample size, statistics etc, take it for what it is. If anything it shows that more than adequate accuracy is attainable for an economical price and that the relatively cheap torque wrenches survived 1000 cycles. Maybe this has appeal to...

Did the unthinkable at Harbor Freight

What's really unthinkable is when the Harbor Freight tool truck puts Snap-On out of business. There will be screaming and hollering and people spazzing out and rolling around in the gutter like junkies.

Choosing the right scan tool...confusing to say the least

Yes. I remember one video of South Main Auto where Eric O. had him come up (to NY state) to diagnose a problem for him. And Eric is pretty damn good.

Took Suggestions for scraping valve cover gasket.

I've used a slightly dull (not razor sharp) wood chisel forever. Even works on aluminum if you don't get stupid with it.

Amprobe multimeter bit the dust what to replace it with?

Those 6 "electrolytic" capacitors look like aluminum/polymer capacitors and lack the cross slits the electrolytics have for venting purposes.
