    Snap-on wrench questions

I picked up a couple of old Snap-on combination wrenches recently and am looking on any info that you all might have on them. #1 Snap-on OEX-46 1 7/16" combination wrench By the looks of the date stamp does that mean it's a 1956? #2 Snap-on GOEX-48 1 1/2" combination wrench pat 3273430 I...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Drivesitfar The vise isn't mine, I had someone contact me offering to sell it. It was her 80 yr old dads and he got it long ago from his dad, so I really don't know the history. By talking to the daughter though, it sounds like the price is going to be too high to be practical. I certainly...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Any idea who the maker on this vise is? The only marking is a b3307 stamped on the base. I don't know the jaw size at the moment.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Update: After a couple days of soaking the jaw pin in kroil it turned loose. The jaw spun off and also appears to be in good shape. I picked up 3.5 gallons of evaporated, so I'll start the soaking process.

    Brand New Unisaw

I've been looking around for a nice used unisaw myself. Around here $500 won't get you much. The fence obviously makes a difference along with which version the saw is.

    Tools from the old world

Here are a couple that I picked up in a flat of tools at auction. German SW Pliers- I can find any reference to this manufacturer. Guessing pretty old, but I have no idea about that either. Italian Winthrop 10" channel locks - Can't find any reference on this manufacturer either.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here's a few pics of a Wilton 9350 I picked up today. Seems to be in fairly nice shape and will clean up nice.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I may try the evapo-rust option first, I'll see if I can find a couple gallons this weekend. Once taken apart I can get the vise in a reasonably small container it looks like. I didn't want to go the wire wheel route around the raised letters, I'm afraid of doing more damage than necessary...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Mike Paxton: Oddly enough the jaws are 4". Maybe it's a 51? I think I'm going to make an electrolysis tub and have at it. I can't see why I wouldn't want to go that route, seems like the best way to get it cleaned up.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The inner pipe is threaded through the screw and the base fits over it. When the screw is closed it traps the base against the vise making it stationary.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Drivesitfar and I were having a discussion in another thread I started about a vise I've got, and suggested I post it up in this thread. Here it is and all the details I know about it. Any onfo would be great. The vise is labeled Rock Island Tool Co, with a patent date of Oct 15 1901. It's...

Rock Island Vise? 143 or 141?

Thanks, I'll poke around the repair 101, and electrolysis threads.

Rock Island Vise? 143 or 141?

Hmm, the plot thickens. I wasn't aware the pin created an additional swivel point. As stupid as it sounds I thought it was so you could replace that section. Which in retrospect doesn't make a lot of sense. Is it usually a pin or a threaded bolt? I'm going to need to bath this thing in kroil...

Rock Island Vise? 143 or 141?

Here are some more pics. The swivel is a 2 part mechanism. The first is a piece that the screw threads through and the 2nd is the base itself. The pipe fits in the base, and when it is clamped the screw also snugs the swivel together so it can no longer move. I guess the downside is to...

Rock Island Vise? 143 or 141?

Thanks for the info, I'll get a bunch of pics later today. They will tell a much better story than I can describe. I live about 10 miles from Rock Island so I wonder if proximity explains its early date. I'll check out the "Big Vise" thread and certainly post pics there as well.

Rock Island Vise? 143 or 141?

Hello all, new to the forum and have some questions on a Rock Island vise I own. I've searched and searched the web for info on what I've got and can't seem to find anything that matches up. It is stamped on the static end of the vise 141 pat Oct 15 1901? I think that date must be later...
