    Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches vs non-ratcheting

Id go rat for everything unless HF doesnt make it. Besides, you drive a Tacoma. Chances are your tools will rust away before that truck needs to be fixed.

    Lowes tools?

There has been talk of Lowes phasing out Kobalt but its their house brand and they are just an Apex rebrand, so I dont see it happening. The newer Craftsman stuff is just fine. People need to get over the fact that its made in China and need to take off the rose colored glasses regarding the...

    1/4" automotive torque

Id say it really depends upon the bolt and the application. I cant imagine needing to use an impact for anything that falls in the 1/4" range. I mean, Ive got a 3/8 impact and sometimes I think its quite silly for the drive size but its nice to have when you need it and when the 1/2 is either...

If I own MIG, should I get a stick?

Id say it depends what you are doing. If you do a lot of welding on greasy, dirty, rusty metal; stick is nice. If you do all of your work on clean metal, MIG is all that you need.

Shade-Tree: Most common size nuts/bolts do you run across now days?

It seems like 12mm and 17mm are the ones that I run into most often. Most of the work that I do is oil changes and brake jobs though: the drain plug on my Accord is a 17mm and the caliper slide bolts are 12mm. Also, the slide pin boot nuts are 17mm, so you have that. Really though, you need a...

How much time do you spend looking for USA made tools?

Nope. I spend zero time looking for made in USA tools because steel is steel. Some might say that they like buying US tools to support US jobs and so that the tools arent made by people who are making slave wages. That may be true but if you believe what Den Of Tools showed in a video he made...

3/8" Drive Lug Nut Socket Set

Any 3/8 impact socket will work, you just may have a harder time finding sizes that are big enough for lug nuts.

    Garage door opener light bulbs?

Just make sure you get bulbs that are made for garage door openers. Some will cause electrical interference and cause issues with the remote control.

    Straight edge???

Anything works as long as you can ensure that its actually straight. Ive got a Masterforce straight edge that I bought at Menards for like $20. Its got a raised edge to prevent you from accidentially cutting your fingers off and has a non-slip backing on it...

Tool Aquisition - What's your favorite ways to find old tools?

Pawn shops can be a great way to find old tools. People often get rid of old tools that belonged to their father or grandfather and dont really care what they get for it. Ebay can be a good place too. Its kind of a buyer beware kind of thing though. I often find myself looking at old...

How do you "winterize" a power washer?

I would run some antifreeze through it. You dont really want to be running the pump dry because you run the risk of burning up the pump. Dont forget about the engine either, if its gas powered. The same rules go for any other ICE OPE.

Best saw for cutting wood and for school projects?

I feel like every generation says things like this and to be fair, your grandfather probably said the same thing back in the day.

Best saw for cutting wood and for school projects?

For liability reasons, your probably looking at stick to hand saws. I cant imagine that nowadays you would even be able to put a power saw in a kid's hands. For that reason, you cant really beat a Japanese pull saw.

Committing To Cordless / Experimenting With Airless

You definetly can run an impact on a smaller compressor as long as you use the tool in short bursts. If you are doing something like buzzing off lug nuts, its probably fine. Youre never going to get the most out of the tool though because you simply cant feed it enough air. With how great...

    Made the switch to DeWalt

Milwaukee's headquarters and much of their operations are still in Brookfield, WI. TTI themselves arent even Chinese actually, theyre based out of Hong Kong. Big difference. Also, Id be very cautious of DeWalt and their, "made in the USA with global materials" bit. Its a marketing scheme and...

    Black Friday Purchases?

I bought a Greenworks snowblower ($99 at Menards), a Dremel Ultra Saw and a Masterforce 18v inverter.

    Husky Cordless Ratchet

My concern would be with the integrated battery. Odds are that if you only use it every once in a while, its probably going to be dead every time you want to use it. That and if you are in the middle of a job and the battery dies, you cant just swap out the battery for a fresh one. Its one of...

Committing To Cordless / Experimenting With Airless

With modern cordless tools, air tools have become pretty much obsolete for a DIYer. Theres so many great cordless tools out there that when you consider the coss of an air compressor that is big enough to run air tools, you save so much money with battery power. Sure, air tools themselves are...

Is another retailer going to drop a battery tool line?

I often wonder why TTI even bothers keeping Ridgid around. I kind of occupies the same space that the Ryobi HP line does and Ridgid just doesnt have the selection of tools that many other brands do. If I were looking to get into cordless brand, Ridgid would probably be one of the last that I...
