What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Rear brake job on my '15 Honda Accord. Almost 170K on the clock and it still had the factory original rear pads on it, so I figured it was due. I probably could have stretched it until spring but Id rather do it on a semi warm November day than to have to do it in the middle of January when...

Should I get a Sliding Compound Miter Saw?

I guess that I would ask why do you think that you need a slider? I used to have a Ryobi 10" non slider and I could cut anything up to 2x6s with it. Even if I had to cut 2x12s, I could just flip the board over or could just use a speed square with a circular saw. Sliders are cool and all and I...

    Ratcheting screwdrivers: yah or naw?

So, last weekend I picked up a Masterforce ratcheting screwdriver at Menards. It looks like its basically the same thing as the Husky. I used it a bit when I took the top off of my electric lawnmower and blew all of the grass clippings out of it and it worked great. When I was at Menards, I...

Bosch "Freak" brushless GDX18V-1800 at Lowes for $99.00

Thats a pretty decent deal but if you want to do something like take the lug nuts off of your truck, the Freak isnt made for that. I had looked into getting a Freak when Lowes had them on sale for Labor Day but the low torque and the fact that Bosch themselves says that its not made for lug...

    Small vacuum for cars

Ive got a 3-gallon Craftsman that I really like and I only paid like $25 for it. Ridgid also makes some nice ones and Menards has some small Masterforce vacs that are nice and really affordable.

How to get started with Milwaukee M18?

Id start with an impact or a drill/driver and then add tools as you need. I say drill/driver because they typically come in a kit that is fairly cheap.

    Ratcheting screwdrivers: yah or naw?

Amen. I work in auto manufacturing and they give us Milwaukee M12 and Makita 12v impacts to use for shooting small bolts and screws. I often feel like some of the people I work with probably shouldnt be given anything more than a 4v powered screwdriver. LOL

    Ratcheting screwdrivers: yah or naw?

I own 6 Ryobi batteries, 2 DeWalt 12v batteries and 3 Masterforce 20v batteries. I dont care what kind of battery you have, if it sits in your toolbox drawer for a year and you go to use it, the battery is probably going to be dead. Thanks for playing though. (y)

    Ratcheting screwdrivers: yah or naw?

The only problem with that is the same problem that I have with any other powered screwdriver: every time you want to use it, the battery is probably going to be dead.

Thats what the manual impact driver is for. Its a must for removing brake rotor screws.

    Un-Attended Battery Charging - - Caution

I routinely leave my tool battery chargers charging in the garage unattended. Heck, Ive got a Milwaukee M12 jobsite radio right now out there with a battery charging in it and its left plugged in 24/7. Of all the things that I worry about, a fire from an unattended battery charger is not...

    Ratcheting screwdrivers: yah or naw?

Interesting responses. I do have an impact driver but I dont know that I would use it in every situation. Even on the lowest setting, a 20 volt impact could be way too much power in some instances. Im looking at either the Craftsman one that Lowes sells or the Masterforce one that Menards...

    cordless tool storage question

As long as they stay dry, youre fine. Id even say the batteries would be fine out in the garage. You dont need to keep them in the house.

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Anyone out there with a small 2 car garage?

Yeah, I mean its the best that I could do. Theres just a lot less worries by agreeing to clean her car off during the winter. I could see her leaving for work and leaving the door open, driving into the shelf on the back wall of the garage and driving into the garage door itself.

    Ratcheting screwdrivers: yah or naw?

Im thinking about picking up a ratcheting screwdriver. The only day I had to fix my wife's little space heater and the only screwdriver that was handy at the time was her cheap little no-name ratcheting screwdriver and after I fixed the heater, I was like, "this little screwdriver is pretty...

    Shelf Life of a Compressor

I just mean that with most pancake compressors, they have no real filtration system on it, so the pump will burn up long before the tank rusts and blows out. A lot of them are made a cheaply as possible. Earlier this year I looked at the Craftsman and Metabo pancake compressors and they didnt...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Anyone out there with a small 2 car garage?

I make mine work by only parking 1 car in it and having the rest of it be for my tools, equipment and work space. It works fine, the only bummer is that I had to agree to brush the snow off of my wife's car during the winter.

Thinking of getting a new, quieter air compressor for the garage. Replace this 20 year old Craftsman

A friend of mine recently bought a Husky 20 gallon silent compressor and he absolutely loves it. He uses it inside of his 1 car garage that is his shop and he says that you can barely hear it. Im looking at getting a Masterforce 4-gallon silent compressor myself (because all that Im going to...

    Shelf Life of a Compressor

I dont know that Id be all that worried about it. Do you really think your pancake compressor will still be working in 10 years?

Who makes the new Duralast tools?

I dont see moving production to Taiwan or China being a bad thing because if it werent, good cheap tools wouldnt exist. Not everyone can afford to pay Snap-On prices and for the weekend mechanic or DIYer, you dont need expensive tools. Faster and cheaper has always been the American way...
