Why are American's tool boxes so big?

Honestly, if I didn't work on tractors all the time my need for SAE would be almost non existent. I know you run into the occasional one on vehicles, but it's getting more and more rare.

    Why Buy Snap-on?

What should they have on them??? And they'd still be better even if they were bare steel. We aren't buying them for the chrome. The high quality steel, superior design, and tight quality control is what you get when you buy them.

    New Husky Metric Wrenches

I find it humorous that we are comparing Husky wrenches to Snap On. Not saying that they won't get you by, but it's like comparing a Cadillac to a Yugo. They'll both get you there, but one will make for a more pleasant trip.

    Growing up with tools.

Yes, hammering on something. It's just all he has ever known. There is no difference to him in my FL80 and some junky *** ratchet he bought at the Dollar Store. It just doesn't compute for him. I thought if he ever bought some expensive tools his attitude would change, but it didn't. He bought a...

    Growing up with tools.

Dad and Pa farmed part time and were police officers as their day jobs (Dad went to work as a heavy equipment operator for the state after his division of the state police was downsized). We farmed tobacco and cattle and used some pretty old equipment and trucks so they had several tools, mostly...

auto mechanics and tool truck owners - I need your expertise

I seem to use almost everything at one time or another. 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, and 22 are very common and I even use a 12 fairly often, and the tractors are all SAE.

What do you think of SK? Old or New?

I have a few old random SK sockets and wrenches that were Dad's or Pa's but have never used them much. They appear to be of good quality, however. I just ordered the SK 20 piece stubby wrench set from Epstein's so I'm about to find out how the new ones are! Can't wait!

You break 2 Snap On ratchets per month? Me thinks a breaker bar would be a good investment.

    Astro Pneumatic Tool Company

Just wanted to drop a line and says thanks, I won one of the ratcheting adjustable wrenches in the Suggest a Tool thread and it arrived yesterday. I've never used one before but it seems to be pretty dang good quality!

Do people really care where tools are made

You are right. I'm posting on a piece of junk phone that cost me $700 and was made in China. And I'm pissed about it. I have been trying to find a USA made phone, apparently that unicorn does not exist. Back on topic: 99.5% of the tools I buy are USA made, and I make it a point to do that. I...

    Old tools: Washington pipe wrench

I picked this up last year at a local flea market and I can find nothing on the internet about the company. It's neat looking old piece and still very functional, so I thought I would share and see if any of you guys had any info on it. It's looks to be pretty old judging by the wood handle and...

    First time vinegar bath.

I bought it at Walmart in the bulk aisle, it was there with all the rest of the the vinegar. Don't go out of your way to get it, I just grabbed it because it was there. Regular vinegar would've done fine as well. Honestly, the smartest thing to do is by the cheapest you can find.

    First time vinegar bath.

I used the Heinz white cleaning vinegar, the only difference is the regular white vinegar is 5% acidity, the cleaning is 6%.

    First time vinegar bath.

I specifically didn't put it on the wheel just so I could see what it would do with heavy scale. What you see is what it looked like after I pulled it out, washed it with Joy detergent and a nylon scrub brush and hit it with some spray lube. The only thing left is a bit of the black coating and...
