The Best Ratchet Lube Has Been Discovered

The fact a German man went to the effort to test these theories is not helping stereotypes any, just saying.

What are your favorite "snags" on FB Marketplace or Craigslist?

About my best was 3 or 4 pairs of NIB Knipex from a guy who seemed rather sketchy for $20 a pair.

    Just acquired a Hay-Budden anvil

I have a massive (460+ lbs) Peter Wright, and a much smaller Arm & Hammer (125 lbs) that was my wife's grandfathers. Welcome to the club.

How are the Anti Vibe hammers?

I have a Proto and the craftsman copy of them and I can't say they're bad, but I haven't put a ton of use into them yet either. Honestly I really like the flat spot on the head to set it down on the ground with as much as anything else.

    CAT carrying Stahlwille ratchets now

So is it the new standard or is in addition to the regular Snap-On/Williams Cat stuff? Inquiring minds want to know.

    best paint stick

Same here. I was really curious what kind of technological improvements could have possibly been to this design.

    Surgical tape wrapped tools

I've used hockey tape/trainers tape to make things grippy for myself. Never on a mechanics hand tool though.

Time for a new bench grinder me thinks

Just keep watching FBMP and CL for deals. Around here at least, they seem to come in waves. I'll see a ton come up for sale all at once and then they dry up again.

Tool makeup diversity in your box

Started out as purely Craftsman thanks to my dad and from selling tools at Sears in high school. As I got older and as Craftsman got crappier I branched out more, as well as some stuff was just better for certain trades i.e., when I was working as an electrical apprentice I naturally got more...

Replacing my Craftsman Screwdrivers-Which ones should I look at as replacements?

You don't replace tools, you add to them. This is garage journal, rational thought and reason have no business in here.

    Melting letters

Milwaukee Inkzall pens and a particularly hideous pastel or neon shade of pink, purple etc. spray paint seem to work well for most applications.

    Cat (Snap-On) tool haul

Well I’ve been on a buying spree so I have to hold back for now.

    Cat (Snap-On) tool haul

Dang. Wish I had been paying attention to that.

Are tool truck sockets “worth it” for the professional?

As a non professional, but addicted tool junkie, I will say it like this: Are snap on sockets better than Harbor Freight etc.? Yes. Are they 10-12x the cost better? unequivocally no. Like anything in life you get what you pay for, but value isn't just dollars and cents. I like to find them used...

    New TEKTON German Made Hammers

Speaking as an amateur blacksmith, a cross pein is great for working and drawing out hot metal. You can do a lot of work with one hammer with a cross pein. Beyond that I have no idea what the draw would be for anyone else.

Gerstner Factory Scratch & Dent Holiday Sale – Dayton, OH

These are definitely in the want not need category for me. But I really, really want some of them.

    Corded lights....obsolete these days?

Both have their place. But I'd say in my life cordless outnumber corded by a solid 5 to 1 at least. Corded is nice if I'm in the basement or the shop and won't be moving around a lot. Magnetic and cordless is great in the field and when I need to focus my light in an area without it being in the...

    DeWalt vs Milwaukee - question

Sir, you have no idea how amazingly stupid the average American is. The only positive I can say about the ever increasing decline of human intelligence is that is excellent job security for myself and other first responders.

    Buried Padlocks

We have a disc golf course we have to keep up with and the locks to hold them in the ground to the concrete mounts are padlocked to keep them secure. They could honestly just break them off at the ground if they were wanting to damage it. But we are also in a large college town where frat guys...
