Big cart options for Auto Tech

Looking at your box I agree you have space that can be improved. One area that sticks out is your extensions, I do the same thing that you do, a big pile. I think that if you put the 3” and smaller ones on a rail, and got an organizer of your choice for the longer ones you could be just as...

    Cheap 26" Rolling Tool Boxes?

We bought a dozen of the Yukon Cabinets in the Drawer configuration (they have a cabinet one too) for school library maker spaces. They do exactly what you suggested, they hold two Dremel 3-D 45 printers and the drawers hold all the associated 3-D printing supplies. We were very surprised of the...

Transform Messy Workshop Garage to Warehouse Storage

I’m in the sort it camp. If you don’t have carte blanche to throw things out you have no choice but to start by sorting. l’d start with tools and get the stuff I could identify in one area. I also agree on the bankers boxes - look like an assortment of god knows what. Did he restring tennis...

    Inline wire strippers

Damn this thread, I was at hf today, saw these on the rack and bought them. I’ll report back once I open them up, but I was interested in the design, and for $20 and made in USA I was in.

    Festool Proliferation

I struggle with this, I really want a Rotex 150 and a Domino. I bought a Makita Track saw a few years ago and it scratched that itch for me and has been a great tool. I think Bosch has an answer for the Rotex that more in my budget, but there is no other tool like the domino. They certainly...

    Cabinetry/woodworkers form

If I recall all of Jim Tolpins books were well done and practical. That kitchen cabinet book was excellent. I agree, any of those books are a great start, and many local libraries have copies. The suggestion of looking at these types of resources also helps a new woodworker avoid some of the...

    Which cordless ratchet?

My M12 experience is the opposite of yours but I have the non fuel model in 3/8” and while I’m not gentle it’s survived many years without issue. Have you tried the other flavors, or considered adding a smaller impact to your rotation?

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Salvage Garage

I always keep at least one complete shear bolt/pin in an extra hole in the snowblower handlebars. Saved my rear more than once. A must if you travel with the snowblower to different sites.

    Socket Organization

Hanson were the original and are very good but the HF knockoffs seem to be very good as well. It’s small money for a big jump in organization!

    Socket Organization

I really like the Hanson Peg style racks for how I work. I used to use craftsman rails prior laying down and would never go back to shallow drawers with sockets for how I work. I’m not a grab a rail or rack guy, I grab specific sockets, load my tray or cart, and then return them (hopefully) to...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Not sure how I feel about China Sk in general but those drawer inserts are pretty nice, love the carbon fiber and green layout. I’d miss the knurling on the 3” extension but otherwise looks like a nice set up.

    Radial arm or table saw.

Building construction using dimensional lumber means 90% of the work was crosscutting. That is bread and butter work for a RAS. Especially in a time where plywood was not widely used, every thing, from sheathing on exterior, roofs, and oftentimes floors came as bunks of lumber. I‘d be hard...

    Choosing a drill driver

Milwaukee M12 has a sweet drill and impact driver kit, Dewalt has one mentioned above that is good as well. That said, HF seems to be a player now in all things tools, if a Bauer fits your budget go for it. Most of us on GJ worry non mainline cordless brands are flavor of the month like Kobalt...

3/8" and 1/2" Drive Sockets, Can I get Away With Impact Only and not Chrome?

I agree, chrome 3/8 sets of reasonable quality are relatively inexpensive. I could also see only having metric or SAE in chrome depending on what my work seemed to be. Having duplicates of 1/2 drive in both can be expensive so just from a cost factor I could see this a a way to go. In a past...

3/8" and 1/2" Drive Sockets, Can I get Away With Impact Only and not Chrome?

This is the conundrum - I believe AEAdam mentioned it first, you can until you can’t. I mostly do undercar maintenance on our stuff at home, brakes, suspension, wheel bearings, exhausts. I could easily get by with just impact sockets for nearly all that work. Subaru in their infinite wisdom...

History of Side Cabinets / End Cabinets

    I’m leaning to very late 70’s or early 80’s as many late 70s catalogs don’t show anything - Sears - https://archive.org/details/SearsCraftsmanPowerAndHandTools197677/page/n71/mode/1up Mac 73 - https://archive.org/details/mac-tools-catalog-1973/Mac%20Tools%20Catalog%201973/page/100/mode/2up

    M12 Must have tools?

I’m in the same boat, may keep the M18 inflator on my good deal list. The caulking gun that keeps coming up is a great suggestion. I always forget such things exist and squeeze my way through jobs. The stapler is one I have seen before but forgot as well. May have an insulation job coming up...
