when does Harbor Freight have their sales?

Just to close this up, bought a 56” today, but have to wait until more stock comes in. I actually passed a gentleman leaving with the 56 inch slate gray in the back of his truck as I was pulling in. Guess he got the last one in stock. I was good for blue or gray, but all they had was red and...

Cordless Ratchet under sustained torque resistance

Could you use a drill with a socket adapter to do the same thing? Most of the better brushless drills develop some pretty significant torque in low gear and could at minimum provide a proof of concept before you buy a bigger ratchet.

when does Harbor Freight have their sales?

I passed the last time they went on sale this summer. Still on the fence but after seeing your new set up I think I am going to go for it. I have a series 1 44”, the drawer add on, and the 5 drawer cart now. Thinking of switching it up and getting all the user tools in the 56” and cart, and...

Ideas on storing sds plus drill bits and oscillating multi tool blades?

I keep my OMT in a Keter box, it has dividers and a mini box that I use for the blades, it comes in handy. A few holidays ago the HD was selling a Ridgid assortment of blades and it had a nice thin case I also use in the box to keep things clean.

    Show your new tool arrivals

Garage Journal strikes again, saw these mentioned on Mike’s thread a an alternative way to hold bolts for wire wheeling. Have done the careful finger vise method, the pliers or vise grip method and these look like the solution I never knew existed…

Snowblower in garage, keeping area clean

Thanks for the helpful comments. The goal is to get everything on shelves or in water resistant containers, but unfortunately I’m 2 months into moving and every non-living area seems to be in a constant state of Tetris. Things go out, new things come in. Now it’s holiday decorations, which is...

Snowblower in garage, keeping area clean

Just moved to a house with an attached garage and an outbuilding to use for a shop. First snowfall just came and brought the snowblower down to the house to make it easy to get to the driveway. I cleaned it out pretty well before rolling in, but found a huge puddle I wasn’t really prepared for...

At what point would you buy a battery operated nailer compared to using a hammer?

I just did three prehung doors, and used trim screws for the door jambs, don’t think I’d go back to nails unless I had no choice. For the trim I shot 18g nails from an air gun. I’m in the cordless nailers are still too pricy camp. I get the why, and the who. It’s just not me, for my work. I...

What’s your core set of powertools for general purpose handyman work?

Circular saw excels at short to long straight cuts (as your skill allows). Jigsaws allow you to cut straight and curved cuts by following a line. Neither are a good substitute for the other, but a jigsaws wide variety of blades makes it a versatile choice. If I was framing a deck or a wall, I’d...

What’s your core set of powertools for general purpose handyman work?

I think this is a key point, my cases are set up so all relevant bits, blades, etc are with them and ready to go. Needing a metal blade for your sawzall in the middle of a project may not be the end of the world, but over time not having the right gear and running to get it is the same as not...

What’s your core set of powertools for general purpose handyman work?

I would not waste my time with anything less than an 18V Fuel grinder. I was an early adopter and have both the non-fuel and the fuel and the only think the non fuel is good for is cutoff wheels. Anything else it is a dog. That said, if you have a decent corded one, I’d kit it up with some...

What’s your core set of powertools for general purpose handyman work?

    Best buys for JET tools

Jet was very comparable to Grizzly through the 80’s and 90’s. They had several offerings that were nearly interchangeable. Grizzly was the first to add premium features to their models, and Jet followed suit. In the late 90-2000’s Jet seemed to build several more premium offerings, fit and...

Design your perfect 250 piece mechanics tool set

I really think if doing this to fit the standard sized case I would do trays with foam and build a pallet system. you can get a comprehensive 3/8 socket set in a pretty small form factor already. It’s when you start trying to add in all the extras, like combo wrenches, screwdriver sets, your 7...

    36” Tool Chest

I’m looking at the 27” US General and trying to decide if it will do what I need for $400 or if I should go bigger, I’ll have to look in the store next time I go.

    36” Tool Chest

Looking to fill a gap in the current attached garage. Plan is to fill a corner with a 36” tool chest, the space currently has shelving above it that can move up for clearance but won’t accommodate a flip top cart. Menards has a nice 36” but sadly they are a half days drive from me. Anyone have...

11 Rites of Passage For every DIY Mechanic.

I was thinking the same thing. my buddy pulled my truck a long way with just a tow strap to avoid this, but them I remembered that time my radiator hose blew off the top of the motor and I put it back together and refilled it with creek water using an old milk jug to get home….

    Trailer lighting

I see above someone mentioned the temp work lights, I added these to a square tube “garage“ several years ago. I see new ones are LED but I rigged up a short male whip into a 4x4 box, added a switch and a 120 v receptacle and wired the switch to control the outlet. Like you I run an extension...
