Home Depot Black Friday Ad 2016

Ign, see the Ryobi Appreciation Thread in the tools section, where we review this guy. I have most of the 40v tools and they are mostly very good with much more power than the 18v tools. Heavier though. - Paul

Yes, Cripes always treats human beings well. I can always recommend buying from Cripes, whether on the ebay store or their regular website (which i recommend as better). - Paul

Home Depot Black Friday Ad 2016

Yes, this 12" is not really a portable job site kind of saw in any way. It is a permanent workshop kind of saw. Replacement for a radial arm saw (almost). I use a 10" non slider Ryobi for portable use. - Paul

I think the best deal in there may be the 12" Rigid Sliding Miter Saw for $299. I have one of those older ones and love mine to death. Great deal there. - Paul

Are they better:Pre 1980 TOOLS VS New US Made tools

Ok, well if you weren't so darn HOT based on your Avatar photo I might be upset with you. You lighten up too. I did not ever say there are not good products from Japan, German, Italy, France, etc. Only that I prefer US, which are great, old or new, some of which ARE better than products from...

Are they better:Pre 1980 TOOLS VS New US Made tools

Hey DSL, as for Steel quality, do you know what an inclusion is? Do you know how to process it out of a batch of steel? Do you understand what brittleness is? Have you designed and brought global products into production? With different global suppliers and steel foundries? Give me a break...

Kball, that is interesting. Post the WEIGHT of each tool in the list as well if you would for comparison. - paul

Are they better:Pre 1980 TOOLS VS New US Made tools

"Japan has been considered one of the highest grade steel makers in the world, for centuries. Far longer than the U.S. has been around. Same with Sweden." I never once said Japan steel was bad. Reread my comments. And don't put words in my mouth either. China steel is not as good as other...

Are they better:Pre 1980 TOOLS VS New US Made tools

Coming back to this thread after a bit. So to clarify a few of my comments. Craftsman is not necessarily what I was referring to as the well made old US stuff. I'm talking about Wright, SK, Proto, New Britain, Indestro, Wilde, Blackhawk, Snap-On, Mac vintage. Well designed and made old stuff...

Are they better:Pre 1980 TOOLS VS New US Made tools

I'll put on my mechanical engineer hat for a bit. Newer *premium* tools will have advances in technology over the older ones, but better steel? Nope, not if from Asia, where the steel quality is pretty terrible. It is hard to get a batch of steel that meets the same specs as US batches of...

Thanks for the heads up. Those are not as good as the original Petersens but were still head and shoulders better than Irwin China Vice-Grips. Worth getting if anyone can use them. Original Petersens are better though and worth 5-10 more each easily. - Paul

How many of you buy vintage tools for use?

I use my older tools all the time. Nothing like a good US vintage tool in the hand. - Paul

    Ryobi P118 charger dead?

Well the newer Lithium + full size or half size batteries are great. HD will have these on sale quite often in a two pack. The older chargers made just for the NiCad are much slower charging than the newer Lithium chargers and may do better on older NiCad batteries. Even the black P118 is a...

    Ryobi P118 charger dead?

Hmmm, that is interesting. They are supposed to have auto drain and recharge circuits in the chargers and I've not had any problems with those circuits. Perhaps yours is bad and draining too much. Try a different charger. - paul

    The Ryobi Tool Appreciation/Review Permathread!

That may have to do with the slow charging vs. fast charging we talked about here a while back. Slow charging is always better on the batteries, even NiCads. I like the 18v string trimmers too. But the newer ones are auto feed, which means they will feed out more line every time you...
