Can you explain Smith & Hemenway S & H Needle Nose Cutter Inserts?

No argument. I guess I've never run into modern quality pliers with replacable cutters. This old concept was new to me.

Can you explain Smith & Hemenway S & H Needle Nose Cutter Inserts?

Lugz, I read your Neverslip post. They look more "elegant" than my S & H. Wondering how a pliers owner purchased new cutter inserts. A pair at a time, a box of 10? Now days with so many things the cost of repairs is equal to about 50% of a new one. May as well pony up & get the shiny. Also...

Can you explain Smith & Hemenway S & H Needle Nose Cutter Inserts?

Interesting to me why someone would make a pliers with removable cutter inserts. The jaws are tapped for a screw to hold down blades that fit in channels. The screw hole is round, so no depth adjustment is possible if you were to sharpen the cutters, making them shorter. And the cutter inserts...

Thanks gpw-42 for that info. No tall cotton for me. The combat badges are clutchbacks NS Meyer. The 3RD Infantry pin is held in place by a threaded disc. Judging from your avatar, you know a little bit about that personally. Thanks for your service if that is the case.

    2021 Garage Sale Thread

I drove all over creation with nothing to show but an Elvis coin for 5 bucks. Then less than a mile from my place there was a sign tacked to a phone pole that I circled back to read & pulled down the back road to find a not advertised estate sale. Prices were cheap for stuff I wanted, or dig a...

What is the reason for Kraeuter 1830 pliers teeth not meeting tightly. Reason for the gap?

Not sure about fish tape. I could see maybe if twisting insulated wire & not wanting to crush through the insulation layer exposing the copper. But if twisting bare wire, I'd rather a firm grip. But what do I know...? Thanks for the link to past discussion RTM.

What is the reason for Kraeuter 1830 pliers teeth not meeting tightly. Reason for the gap?

Curious why these pliers, when closed would be unable to grip a fine wire or piece of sheet metal. I've looked at photos of other examples, & it appears this is the way they are designed. When the cutters meet, the grip teeth still have a 1/32 gap. Curious if someone can tell me the reason/use.

My second yard sale of the day, I should have just gone home afterwards rather than cruise 30 more locations, but you never know right? A digging bar for $2. Wow, I would have been kicking myself the whole time as I collected all that rust. "If only I had been here 30 days earlier...." The Stihl drill is cool, in a masochistic way. Never knew there was such a thing. I see it has a bar code, so can't be too old.

My British Heart Brand by Wynn & Timmins Adjustable Wrench

I had posted this in the garage sale thread previously. I am not too successful with search, so hopefully this is interesting to someone else & has not been beat to death. The tool was rusted & frozen when I got it, it took PB Blaster and a lead hammer to work it loose to clean up. I found...

Then after about 30 houses with nothing of interest, I saw a red tool pouch on the blacktop driveway. Opened it to see a new set of MAC air chisels. I ask the price... "Is five dollars too much....." "No, says I, that will be just fine." Then, I see a large air tool, the dang thing was so big...

In keeping with the days gone by... I have been singing the "Duck and Cover" song since I brought this lot home. I was ignorant of what the contents were, but for 10 bucks, I had to have it The Geiger counter is missing, & d-cell batterys were left inside the other stuff, so the contacts are...

Ok it's a hammer so it's a tool right? Just for fun (and 50 cents) I brought home this toy hammer that was supposed to make the sound of breaking glass. It didn't work. Battery contacts were clean. So I had to pry off the rubber hammer head and use a small phillips to split the handle open which...

That's what I was thinking. I didn't know about the screw difference. Thanks Moose-LandTran.
