Texas freeze

Even on a slab a house should be plumbed to have a drain **** at the bottom of the system. You'd still have to deal with the water heater and toilet bowls, but it would be cheap insurance if a house is left vacant for a period of time.

How to know what dtv antenna to buy

You'll need a digital converter box, which were handed out free during the digital conversion, so there's plenty of them around. Check at thrift stores for one.

    Cleaning Nicotine Garage Doors

Another vote for TSP, and as a smoker, I should know. And if it doesn't work, TSP is great prep for re-painting.

How to drill very small holes?

I always use an old eggbeater drill on smaller bits. Seems to work without breaking them.

Who Makes The "Best" Duct Tape?

Nashua 357 is the best I've found. But when I was in New England I was forever on the search for the elusive "EB Green," a mil-spec tape used at Electric Boat to tape nuclear submarines together. Never found it.

For cheap, tough, resistance to liquids and easy to replace, you can't beat laminate flooring. And you get to pick your color.

Show us your Cans! ...your trash can that is.

I got one of those water containers that came out of a fallout shelter. Per instructions, I can also use it as a toilet after a nuclear attack. Sage approves. [/IMG]

    Coating masonite workbench surface, options?

When I re-did my workbench top, I ditched the masonite for a leftover box of laminate flooring I got for $20 at Habitat ReStore. Couldn't be happier with the result.

    Masks empty shelves?

It's been widely reported that face masks do little for the general public to prevent the wearer from getting COVID-19, though they do help on infected people from spreading the virus. Sadly, most people don't read and do their homework, and even if they do they rush out and buy stuff just to...

    Swiss Army Knives

At bottom is the knife my Dad took from a German officer right after the Battle of the Bulge and at top is a Tinker, the closest match I could find among modern offerings -- sacrificing a cork screw for a Phillips head screwdriver. The new one goes in my pants pocket first thing every morning...

    Browning Tool Co. Bozeman, Montana

Livingston had a big repair shop for the Northern Pacific Railroad back in the day, so there would have been a lot of machinist talent around. Browning might have incorporated down the road in Bozeman because that's where the lawyers were.

Tips & Tricks 101 Buying Used Hardware

I, too, buy cheap consumables at yard sales -- anything I figure I might have a need for in the future. The trick is remembering you have it and having the orginizational skills to find what you need quickly.

The WRONG Tool For The Job

Using my teeth to strip wire insulation -- did it all of my childhood and most of my adult life and still have to catch myself to this day.

What do you do with your hammers?

I'm really dumb, so I keep my hammers in a bag.

Habitat needs tool donations because Jimmy Carter keeps wearing them out.

Nice Wood Work Bench Surface Protection

I floated laminate flooring on my old bench, held around the edges with aluminum molding. The stuff is tough and resists fluids and if it gets dinged eventually I'll go to the ReStore and get another leftover box for $20.

    Winter car packs

Here in Montana any water you put in your car remains frozen solid from October to April, so I keep a metal coffee can filled with candles (and other essentials like snacks) so I can melt snow if I have to.
