    Show your “Crowntop” Craftsman

Did siding for a couple years a while back and we used to use the blade backwards to cut the vinyl siding so it wouldn't catch and crack. Not usually that low tooth count blade tho.

Wilde Tool & Forge Co., Hiawatha, Kansas

Ive made it work on a few abused breaker bars n rats. Seen more than a few of them like that from factory so figured it would work.

Wilde Tool & Forge Co., Hiawatha, Kansas

Ive used a regular pin punch that is just slightly larger than the hole. Put the other side of the 3/8 square drive on an anvil or heavy steel and whack er! Oh yeah, make sure you have the spring you want in there before doing this! After its staked, its hard to get back out

Agree. Looks like either wright or Thorsen made. Another thought to try tho...how snug does a .177 BB fit? Can find a heavy little spring and BB or ball bearing at good hardeare store and try to press it in there. Doesn't appear to have any quick release mechanism to worry about. Might have...

    Vintage Brown Brockmeyer bench grinder

I agree on the press in screws. Look just like a larger version of what usually holds datatags onto the craftsman grinders. I would just get some longer and next size down capscrews when you mount it to the bench or stand, and sandwich some new rubber feet in between. Otherwise, could probably...

Proto 5849 1” ratchet male/female —welded socket. Is it ruined ? Or can I just rebuild?

Looks good! With a thin cutoff disc, might stand a good chance of savng both a 3/4 drive socket AND your 1 inch drive ratchet! Lol. May not be factory perfect for either, but good usable tools either way!

Proto 5849 1” ratchet male/female —welded socket. Is it ruined ? Or can I just rebuild?

Looks like you could use any 4.5 angle grinder and cut the socket off lower than the taper and be able to get the drive gear out for access. After that it looks like just slowly grinding and taking away material til its flush. Pic showing the open drive side looks like the 1 inch drive hole is...

Antique Wrench A-6234 anyone can identify?

Think that's a Miller Mfg model number. They made specialty tools for random auto manufacturers and didnt have much for catalog listing to reference. Not sure, but my best guess

More Whatzits--Can we make this the official Whatzit thread?

Hard to link to something else at the sale I got it from too. Tractor parts/salvage/scrap/hoarder sale in small town south of me. There was a little of everything selling that day and they had this clamp on its own sale lot.

More Whatzits--Can we make this the official Whatzit thread?

Looks like a possibility. Maybe not to clamp to something tubular, but maybe clamp to an i-beam and HOLD up something tubular?

More Whatzits--Can we make this the official Whatzit thread?

Rebooting the whatzits!!! Obviously could be used for all kinds of stuff, but seems purpose built to mount to something tubular and clamp something square or rectangular? Anyone seen a vise/clamp like this? Google lens seems to think its a cylinder ridge reamer (lolol) or a leg vise. Dont...

Help me date and know more about this plier please!

I buy those style crimper every time I come across them less than $5! Get sick of following a new or tightwad tech using the cheapie smash style GB ones for crimping their terminals and **** connectors! Trade them even up and scrap the off brand! LOL. Worth my couple bucks to not have to fix...

    Winchester Tools

Maybe this is discussed and I just missed it...but is it a coincidence that the replacement part numbers for the keen kutter wrenches and the Winchester wrenches just add a K to the beginning? Maybe same mfg making them, with only difference being the name or symbol on items? Image is from...

Craftsman flat top block grinder with textured factory paint? First ive ever seen...

I wonder if its a combination of things. Being as lightly used and as new condition makes a difference? And maybe just slightly heavier paint application somehow? And maybe the "flat" descriptioni used wasn't right. The paint on the bell ends of mine is rough and textured enough to file down...

Question about a Craftsman toolbox and rolling cabinet

Don't think those cast swivel casters on the top of the box are original...to the box at least. Common on creepers or roll around shop seats tho. I have that same box, and has more common poly wheels

This free SO box even worth it ?

Malco brand just like that pic. They work wonders with bows in flat edge panels. Its hard to explain with a lot of metal working tricks without just trying. Im no expert, but took auto body course after high school and some of the best tricks were just getting creative and trying different things.

This free SO box even worth it ?

That's an awesome score, especially for the price! Lol. I agree...make sure everything is straight and drawers slide well n then just some polish n lube. Looks like an awesome road style box!

This free SO box even worth it ?

Malco sheet metal clamp like this and a body hammer should do most of the straightening you need.
