Made backsplash today

Cut .060 rabbets in the rails so the rails are .020 proud of the tin, mitered the corner, then milled a bevel on the top and bottom of the rails. Glued and screwed the rails onto the counter and lastly glued the tin down.

I like it also, the only drawback in lightweight construction it is another 10#

There is cast iron, malleable iron and forged steel, the first two should not be welded, but may be brazed. In your shoes I would buy a forged steel Elbow and weld it.

Burnt a hole in the top plate and added 100# +/- of punchings and partial rr spikes. Then slopped a coat of linseed oil on the whole thing. The oil brings out the patina nicely.

I've made a number of stands with wheels but are not interested in wheels for this one. Here is a couple pics of wheeled versions from the past

Top plate on and thinking about adding some ballast to the base.

A few more applications of vinegar, salt and hydrogen peroxide and the color is coming along nicely

Thanks Cam, I slipped out to the shop today and welded the column seams. Filled the place up with galv smoke, so I cleared out til tomorrow. And Merry Christmas to you and yours Royce
