    My 32x52 Garage/Workshop build thread

Not an illusion Kev. that was the trench dug to feed the drain field that is another 350 ft down the side of the hill. Them boys get on some slopes that scare me, but they do it all day long and it is just normal for them I guess. Concrete should be going in very soon, will keep pics up when I...

    My 32x52 Garage/Workshop build thread

Well, after many hours scouring the GJ and reading many opinions I have finally made up my mind and the contractor pulled a building permit this morning. I had my excavator guy Aaron busy the past few months pushing dirt around an making my shop pad, driveway, septic , drain field, he has done a...

    Ideal location of your lift

After doing some more sketching to layout location of lift, if I position the lift 14' from the garage door and have a 20' vehicle on it.....it puts the front bumper at 24 deep from garage door. Rather than run scissors the whole 34 depth, what about running scissors in 24' and the last 10' with...

    Ideal location of your lift

thanks for the replies, it's going in a 24 wide x 34 deep with 12' eaves and 6/12 scissors inside so I will have plenty of height. I think this guy has a good idea to deal with the door up and a car up on the lift. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=223201

    Ideal location of your lift

Hello all, I have been looking at buying a 2 post lift and thinking of having it located 14' in from the garage door so that I would have room to walk behind the vehicle on the lift with the door down. Just curious what your experiences with positioning your lift relative to walls and garage...

Bendpak or Challenger lift. Which would you pick?

I like the looks of the E10EH2 or E12 with the 2 ft post extensions, seems like that would be plenty of room for just about anything I would run across. I have been looking at the Mohawks so I wouldn't have a overhead limit, built like a tank.....costly too. Maybe the Challenger with the...

    Costs of building???

I have been out looking at some of the vinyl options, some of the nicer vinyls and vinyl shakes are pretty nice looking. Might have to rethink the hardi board route. here are some better pics.

    Costs of building???

A little update here... I talked to some local builders in my area and asked for quotes. The plan they proposed was 2x6 walls stick built for a straighter wall to apply the hardi board siding to. So my quote for the building was about 71k, this is like I said 2x6 walls with 12/12 scissors with...

    Costs of building???

Hello all, I'm looking for some info on building costs and what to expect. I sent a diagram off to the Morton people for a building that has a right wing of 24 wide x 34 deep with 12/12 scissors truss for lift room and a left side that would tee into the right side with a size of 32 deep x 28...

new Michigan guy here...36x48 garage input

I've read on this forum about spray foam of 2" to seal up building ,followed by rolled bat insulation but that was building vertical walls in between the 6x6 posts. It seems if your going to build vertical "panels" to fit in between your posts, why not just stick build from the start? I'm...

new Michigan guy here...36x48 garage input

I stopped by Menards after work today and got a rough quote for 36x48x13 post framed residential building. A 8x9 and 16x10 garage door in the gable end with a 3' entrance door, 4 windows, vinyl siding and a asphalt shingle roof, 8/12 attic trusses for 2nd floor storage....total $21,600, sound...

    garage/workshop with sips?

Hello all, I 've been searching around and reading opinions on pole vs stick. I plan on building a 36x48 with attic trusses for 2nd floor storage and wondered about using sips, they come already insulated with osb inside and I think you can get them with exterior siding already on.....it sounds...

Hello all, Can some of you guys that have built give me some info on pole vs stick costs? I was thinking of a 36 x 48 with attic trusses and was thinking of laying up 2 rows of block then 12' side walls on top of that for a 13' 4" total height and finishing inside walls with steel. I was...
