    Escape FROM my dream shop

Mac: I saw your comment "but the tin will go up fast as its not all full sheets" and almost replied to disabuse you of THAT notion, but I thought "Why discourage him? He'll find out soon enough". From my recent build, I know that no sheathing goes up faster than that which is hung straight...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

I talked with the installer about the weatherstrip, and he said that they have another type of weatherstrip in a color that matches my door), but the part that they screwed to the jamb is solid in cross section as opposed to the what they installed, which is about 5/16" thick, and hollow in...

Andy, yes that is where the weatherstrip is installed. It is the only part of the install that I wasn't fully pleased with. At the time, it was due to the color - the door is brown, the building is almond(ish), and the weatherstrip is white, matching nothing. It is what looks like vinyl, and...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

I did tell the order taker that it was a metal building, and the installer came out and did their measurement - he was aware that it was a metal building (obviously), and mentioned then that they might have to turn the track brackets around. He said they do metal buildings "all the time", but...

Well, they got a bit of a late start (10:30), but Mark and Felipe returned to install the door. The install went pretty well, but it took them until about 5:30pm to finish it up. I was pleased with their work, they were tolerant of me standing around and asking questions, and were very...

I got the supports for the garage door moved this weekend - we are ON for the door install tomorrow morning (assuming they don't find anything ELSE to impede progress). I don't have a good photo of the "before" supports, since I added them late in the build process. But you can see the two...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

After waiting for 12 weeks for the overhead door to show up, the installer arrived on Wednesday and did a quick look at the support structure and said "Well, that won't work". When the inspector was out to verify my measurements and actually put the door on order, I told him that the supports...

We get them as well when the ground is wet from rain or irrigation. They are nasty things; they about disintegrate in your hands if you try to pick them up. Mine (unfortunately) were growing in the lawn, and ground clear would have had unwanted results. Not sure ground clear works on fungus...

Prewire for minisplit - Can I run the control wires through the power disconnect?

Brewchief, is this what you were referring to: https://www.mysouthwire.com/medias/sys_master/product-specifications/product-specifications/hab/h2f/8854086189086.pdf??

Prewire for minisplit - Can I run the control wires through the power disconnect?

Thanks Brewchief - it's good to get an experienced installer's perspective. I'm about convinced to keep the control cable with the lineset. I'm sure I don't want to bury the drain in the wall, and if it's got to run outside, I might as well run the lineset and control cable outside as well...

Prewire for minisplit - Can I run the control wires through the power disconnect?

One other followup: To provide the "service receptacle", some disconnects (Siemens WF2030GFCI, for example) provide a 15a or 20a GFCI mounted in, but not wired in the disconnect box. Can these be fed from the same feed to the disconnect as the A/C power, or do I need to run a separate circuit...

Prewire for minisplit - Can I run the control wires through the power disconnect?

Thanks for your reply, rlitman. I may have to wait to see what arrives with the mini-split to determine whether or not to run the control wires with the lineset. I just hated the way the old one looked after a few years of baking in the AZ sun. If I run the control wires through the flex...

Prewire for minisplit - Can I run the control wires through the power disconnect?

Thanks Wylie. Since the install guide calls for <17 (translation from Chinese and metric, I guess) wire, I thought I would use the #14 that I have left over from the lighting circuits, which should be at least 300v THHN. I'm considering that Notgrown, but I had a mini-split installed that way...

Prewire for minisplit - Can I run the control wires through the power disconnect?

I'm pre-wiring my shop for a ductless mini-split A/C unit and I'd like to minimize amount of stuff hanging on the outside of the building. I will run 240v/30a in EMT conduit to a disconnect box like a GE TF30RCP that is near the outside unit, and then flexible conduit from the disconnect to...

Andy, I add my heartfelt condolences to those who have enjoyed getting to know you through this forum. I have admired the devotion to your wife that is evident from your comments; making sure that the bird feeders were full and positioned so that she could enjoy watching the birds from inside...

Thanks, GLTH - I got there eventually! Thanks Mr. Y. Just waiting for you send a Y or two to fill it up Thanks, Plain! I'm sure there will be more to do, especially when I get the trim for the old (or short) shop. Then we'll be back to hanging sheathing and laying down roof panels. I did...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

I took the advice of the GJ forum, and ditched the wet-set anchors. I extended the vertical legs the required 8 or so inches, but staggered the joints on the 3 layers of the legs, added plenty of construction adhesive, and tied the joints with Strong-Tie straps. I then added a treated 2x4...

Looks like that better be a "Maintenance Free" air compressor - it's going to be a pain to access behind those pallet racks. Did you plumb in a drain line?

Andy, that is tough! I can see where you couldn't refuse, especially with the disruption in her owner's family. I'm sure you will miss her, as I will miss seeing her devotion to you, and her antics around the farm. As usual, you have provided a fitting tribute and sendoff to her. I hope...
