    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

Well, snap! You guys are right on. Now the question is where to go from here. I see two options: 1) "Stretch" the vertical posts 7" (using an overlapped joint like the corners), and use a bases like this: Concealed post base (4 of them) 2) "Stretch" the vertical posts between the...

No, I'll bolt them to the surface of the existing slab.

It's been a bit since I posted, we've done a few other things around the house, celebrated an anniversary, etc. since we passed the final inspection and hung the fans. Now I'm starting to work on finishing up the existing (short) shop - building the south wall and tying the two buildings...

    Steel building insulation question

Give them a call - here's their retrofit package for R-19. For my 43x25, the building supplier quoted about $2000 for an R-19 package. Direct from Silvercote may be less.

    Steel building insulation question

SilverCote supplied the insulation that was included in my steel building - I recommend them. The product was easy to install, and their customer service was great. When I discovered that they had underestimated the amount needed for my roof, they sent an additional roll, no charge, no...

    Steel building insulation question

I would think you're gonna need to do something about isolating/insulating the primary and secondary steel from the inside of the building. If the sheathing is mounted directly to the primary/secondary steel without any thermal barrier, then it's going to radiate into your interior like a heat...

    Escape FROM my dream shop

Are you setting the bolts, or is the concrete guy doing it? If you are doing it, I would absolutely want to be there during the pour to make sure they end up right. If your concrete guy is doing it, and hasn't done it before, I'd want to be there. Heck, even if he's done it before, I'd want...

The only thing "custom" about my building are the dimensions and sizes/placements of the large doors (the man door was field located). When I ordered it, there were no pre-defined dimensions. As I understand it, there aren't any "standard" designs - each building has to be designed to meet the...

Qwik, we had an uncommonly cool spring (for the Phoenix area) this year, and I am thankful that we got all the outside work finished when it was still pleasant outside. The price of the delivered building was around $22k, engineered to my specifications. Everything was included; however I...

No, you're not not blind - they aren't yet tied together. I have siding and roof sheathing for the old shop, and will seal up weather tight when I get that on (after the cooler weather sets in :) ) I got the request for inspection in before the permit expired - is it my fault they can't come...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

The pulls went fairly easily, but I was glad I used pulling lube - we probably would have gotten stuck on the long pulls from the breaker panel to the first junction box and from there over the arch. I terminated all the outlets, installed new breakers in the panel and wired those and did some...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT 25 x 43 Shop Addition in Chandler

It's been 3 weeks since I posted progress - once again, I've been making progress, but somewhat slowly. Over the weekend of the 4th of July and after, my son Jordan helped me bend and hang the conduit and boxes for the outlets. I decided to put 2 boxes with 2 duplex outlets each on the east...

New GFCI tripping when downstream neutral attached

Sparky, you are correct, an insufficiently dressed ground wire touched a neutral terminal in one of the downstream boxes. Dressed them back in the box, all is well. Every conduit end was reamed, and pulling lube was used. Turned out to be simple errant ground wire issue. Thanks to everyone...

New GFCI tripping when downstream neutral attached

Great idea! I'll get right on checking that :) I didn't - I used the same size THHN as the circuit (12), but I did use the bare copper sleeve connectors like https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-14-8-AWG-Copper-Crimp-Connectors-50-Pack-10-311C/202520223, which does leave bare copper...

New GFCI tripping when downstream neutral attached

Thanks all for you input and comments. It turned out to be an easy one. First, I pulled the load wires off of the GFCI, and sure enough, neutral was shorted to ground on the downstream side. Doing the binary search pattern suggested by MM, I opened up a box, pulled the cover and outlets out...

New GFCI tripping when downstream neutral attached

Nope. <panel>----<gfci>----<outlets> Downstream? Could be (anything could happen), but there is nothing plugged in to any outlet. There are 9 duplex outlets (4 boxes with 2 duplex outlets each, and an additional duplex outlet in the box with the GFCI) on each of the 2 circuits, downstream...

    50x80 fabrication shop in Phoenix

TT, do you have a detailed shop layout already (I would guess so)? Otherwise, the electrical box layout would be quite random.

New GFCI tripping when downstream neutral attached

Thanks, MM! It must be neut/grnd connection somewhere downstream; your approach should nail it down quickest. I must be mistaken about the continuity between neut/grnd - the neutral does float a few volts above ground. No nails, it's all in EMT, surface mount (and no nailing since the install).
