Interesting seeing all the stats. Thanks for sharing. I made the 100+ club....lol. Here are the tools I inherited from my Grandfather. He is doing very good for his age at 90 years old. Still walking, talking, and has a good head on his shoulders. He is a war veteran and has some issues...

Thanks for those details! I've had my own Vise Grips for years but never thought about dating them before. Getting in the general area of a decade is great. I did think the "Vise Grip" handle was older but didn't have an idea of year from 1957(release lever)-2008(move to china). "Vise Grip"...

Howdy all Hope we are all coming off of great weekends. I am inheriting some tools from my grandfather. Some interesting tools for sure. Here are a set of vise grips. The messier and smaller two have patents on them. The bigger two are more modern but which 10WR is older? I havent had any...

    2020 Garage Sale Thread

I found a few things across a couple FB Market sales to pick up this weekend. It's the first metric tap and die set I've seen in my sales exploring this year. Also my first time to see both the Ridgid RHFT long handle ratchet, this one 1/2", and a fully polished Craftsman USA ratchet, this one...

This picture is posted in a sale not far from me. No brand or price mentioned. I can tell it's huge. Any Idea what it is? Brand and Weight? Interesting to see too. Enjoy!

Banjo, thanks for the specs. You definitely moved up to a great vise. In the realm of naming the different types of benchtop vises. This is one we just talked about with a very long slide for it's size. Excellent condition and up for sale locally. Vintage Charles Chas Parker No. 674 1/2...

I was definitely lucky to find it. I found it on Offerup. I used to use the Letgo app for things but after it became Offerup I didn't care for it anymore. Don't like the interface as much and prices always seemed high. I opened it up by chance and found that Vise was up there for 4 weeks...

I picked up a couple vises tonight. A real treat for me. I grew up with Craftsman tools and have come to respect Reed as one of the best Vintage USA Vise makers. What better than to find a Craftsman Vise made by Reed? :) Craftsman Vise 5188 = Reed 105R = 5" Jaws I have been told the Reed...

If you went from a Craftsman Mechanic vise to a Parker Machinist vise that was a great upgrade! What model are your vises? I believe the most common Craftsman USA vises are Mechanic Vises whose model starts with 506-518xx and mostly made by Columbian.

Thanks for the comments. Keeping for sure. I agree with the weak points being the taller/steeper jaws and swivel jaw. Also very functional points if not abused. That might be why we are considering not labeling it a Machinist Vise. I wondered about the steeper jaws. Didn't realize it might...

Here are some pictures of this Parker 278. It does exist. It's in really good condition. I just wiped it down with wd40. Both swivels work good. Measurements are: 4 1/8" jaws opens to 6" (length of slide behind the static jaw when vise is closed) 17" length 50lbs (my scale seems to be...

Thanks for the intel! Google is great. Don't always get to it before I post something and whatever is in my head comes out on the post :) I think the ratchet will work for some square bolts I have around on things. If not, good to know the HVAC use.

    2020 Garage Sale Thread

I hit a couple sales today. One called a garage sale one called an estate sale but the estate sale was run by the family. Both had tools. No Vises which I've become addicted to lately. Found these little pieces to bring home. The crescent wrench was the lady's grandfather's. She said he...

These are my notes for Reed Reed - Early ones were black, - medium grey color sometime after the war, possibly late '40's early '50's. - Newer Reeds were machine tool gray

It surely does. Differences I see: This one I have does not have the meatball on the main handle does not have a 4 point screw holding the dynamic jaw does not have a ledge under the jaw faces Enough differences to be a different manufacturer or just a different year?

Here is an interesting old vise I am handling for a friend. Vise was for sale close to me but the seller wouldn't ship. I picked it up and am shipping it. Thought it also deserved a place in here. No manufacturer mark. Old. In excellent condition.

A deserving you **** for sure! I haven't seen a Wilton go for a bargain price up here on craigslist/fb market/eprey/offerup. Got lucky at a few garage/estate sales on various vises(one wilton) but online the Wilton retail value seems to be well known.

Nice Prentiss 22. It's a bit of a sore subject for me this week. A guy posted one on FB Market that looked in great shape. We agreed on a price Tuesday and that I would pick it up this week. It is interesting how something can be sitting in someone's garage/basement/shed for decades but...

Thanks for the quick replies. I never got into the suction cup vises. Never thought about them for kitchens. That does make more sense. Who is using them in the kitchen? Mr or Mrs? :) Pic was from a basement sale in my area. Looked like a messy picked over work shop. Still alot of stuff...
