Span chart help, what size wood beams sufficient as car scissor lift's support bars?

@whateg01 agreed, I haven't found a span table for 3ft span and not really sure how to read one for this scenario. @Spareparts yes, the commercial ones are 2x4 1/4" but I was thinking about 2x4 3/16" rectangular tubing. I got a quote from a local metal supplier for a full 20ft tube..it was just...

The span is approx 3ft. I've updated the pics in the first post for clarification.

Scissor Lift Install questions and real life user feedback

They do sell 'open-center' scissor lifts, I've had mine for almost 15yrs. Check out Atlas, mine's a Bendpak above-ground low-rise lift. I can do exhaust and transmission work just fine and I park a car over it so it's completely out of sight and out of the way. There will always be advantages...

Span chart help, what size wood beams sufficient as car scissor lift's support bars?

The vehicle frame rails will be at different widths depending on the vehicle. But from what I have seen they'll be within a foot from the inside edges of the scissor lift's flats. The pic was just to show what a set of typical support bars look like for lifting framed vehicles on scissor lifts.

Span chart help, what size wood beams sufficient as car scissor lift's support bars?

4x4 will be lighter, easier to store and deploy but looking like 6x6 will be a safer choice based on some research I did (ok I just ran a few options through chatgpt lol).

Span chart help, what size wood beams sufficient as car scissor lift's support bars?

I've had my open-center Bendpak scissor lift for close to 15 yrs and never had to work on anything other than unibodies which were no problem to lift. Recently had a friend stop by with an older pickup truck and without the lift support bars it was a bit of a pain to manage. I've been...

    Beginner oscilloscope , opinions?

I would say a Pico 2000 series is prob the best bang for the buck. As mentioned above the real benefit is their software (granted their automotive version is not free but you don't really need it) and the large community. I don't have one (because I have others) but I still use their software to...

    The Best Consumer 3D Printer

I think PLA is easiest and faster to run especially on the average $200 types of printers. I would like to try ASA in the near future but for now I did order me some PETG to try, being food, water, chemical safe and more durable than PLA/PLA+ without having to run super high temps.

    The Best Consumer 3D Printer

Thanks, those are awesome tips and good to learn about ASA too, I'll check it out. Yeah the PLA sits exposed to the env; I know they should be stored in vacuum sealed bags and I should prob get a filament dryer too. To get my interest back in 3D printing I ordered a Raspberry pi + a camera to...

    The Best Consumer 3D Printer

Messed around with 3D printing a few years ago when I got an Ender pro. At times it was a frustrating experience with the PLA getting brittle and cracking, or getting stuck in the nozzle, not sticking to the base plate and coming undone after the part was almost done printing etc etc. However...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Discovered a small issue with one cylinder, 15yrs of (light) use so pretty good...but let's see if Bendpak will sell me a seal kit or at least provide the seal dimensions.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

These days I prefer doing diagnostics work more but once in a while turning wrenches is still therapeutic. Worked on a family member's car that he recently purchased...among other things; brakes, one ball joint and a CV axle were completely shot. On top of that someone had used RTV on the brake...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Made a house-call for a family member's car, he's a young kid bought his first car that needs a little TLC. The coolant reservoir tank was cracked. Also, changed the intake manifold runner control valve gasket which was creating a vacuum leak and a surging idle.

FS: Hypertherm Powermax 30XP 110v/220v plasma cutter

Only used for a few cuts while I was building bumpers for my truck. Very portable, only weighs about 20lbs and runs on both 110v/220v. Sorry don't have any closeup pics but it's in really clean and good condition. I can take some pics if requested or come check it out. Please check Hypertherm's...

Found a couple of deals and shipped to my daughter in college, her first year and first time dealing with freezing temps. I like how these types of tools have become easier/safer/compact to use and carry.

    Spotless Water Conversion

Glad we have someone knowledgeable on here about the resin stuff. As for my shelf-life concern I was going by the FAQs I read on CR Spotless's website where they said for longer storage (I reread, they said 60-90 days) drain the water to extend the life of the resin. If that's not an issue then...

    Spotless Water Conversion

Keep us posted on your findings. I also came across the rv-mod kit but I figured all it will do for me is increase the capacity of the resin...but not help with the shelf-life of the resin so I moved on. The shelf-life is an issue for me because I don't wash cars as often so it sits unused for...
