What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Thanks. These wheels have always been maintained since new so it's really not hard to keep them clean. All I have to do is remove them from the car every three months or so, spray the Turtlewax Tire and Wheel cleaner, let it soak for 10-15 secs, scrub with the wheel brushes and hose it down. I...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Just a quick-ish (3hr) wash and wax yesterday. I don't do this much as I get older but once in a while I don't mind it. My daily drivers get the $7 automatic car-wash treatment most of the time.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Made a slide-on winch bracket for the trailer. I store the trailer in the folding position so anything I make for it has to be able to quickly attach/detach and this meets that requirement.

What's the biggest socket size you have ?

Wow😲 talk about thread revival. Being that I was the OP I'm still here after 17yrs but my 1yo kid then is now finishing high school LOL

Cordless die-grinder. I think this is my new fav tool in a while. I was thinking of buying the M12 version but already have plenty invested in the Ryobi line (and my old C3 line). Plus this one is currently on sale for $100 at HD. Has 4 selectable RPM settings (10k to 22k) and a variable trigger.

A few xmas presents. I've owned an older 18v/110v hybrid Ryobi blower for 4+yrs and it's one of my most used tools, it's very convenient but lacked the power for some jobs. This 40v is on a whole new level. The only thing I don't like about it is the variable trigger/ergonomics. As I move the...

BendPak gone the way of the throw away culture!

I too have a BendPak mid-rise open center lift that's 10yrs old now and I know at some point in the near future I'll prob have to tackle this too. Failing the hydraulic shop option there are some youtube videos of people rebuilding cylinders of old/antique equipment like dozers etc by measuring...

Nothing fancy but makes working with hydraulic jacks so much easier. I put one on each of my bottle jacks. Always wanted to make these on the lathe but never got around to it.

A bit overkill for my needs but last time I repacked the trailer hubs I wished I had one of these.

Working on the car this weekend I needed a way to turn several T-30 head bolts in a confined space. The ratcheting thumb wheels weren't ratcheting and to turn them by resetting my grip was tedious. I remembered how some cheap socket sets come with thin plastic thumbwheels for exactly this...

My RF30 mill to CNC conversion - the cheap way

Glad you found the write up helpful. It's a very quick and inexpensive way to get your feet wet with CNC if you already own one of these inexpensive mills. Enjoy the build!

My 8" rotary table hasn't seen any use since converting the mill to CNC and I'm glad I don't have to deal with its size and weight anymore. For gear cutting I was glad I was able to utilize my 20lbs spindexer instead. So I agree with those who suggested getting one that will not sit unused...

@Toolmaker51, I agree. I wish I hadn't tossed all those endmills that I could've salvaged...same goes for other tools too. It takes time but as a home hobbyist I'll always need an excuse to spend a few hours in the garage :) Anyway, today I took a break from playing with the grinding rest and...

BTW, if someone's interested in sharpening just the ends of endmills, this tool rest and jig is much easier to make and supposedly works very well for that purpose: http://www.homews.co.uk/page121.html

Likewise! I enjoy a good challenge and learning new things plus there's something about making things that are considered worthless work almost as good as new again. Some people never have anything of their own to contribute so they just make themselves sound better by picking on others. After...

    The Machine Work Thread

Haha, yeah I was never interested in resharpening before and I generally use inserts on the lathe so I've never sharpened lathe bits either. However, Harold's grinding book really intrigued me, especially because one could potentially resharpen other common tools too. So now after building the...

100% correct. I sharpened the cutting edges with a 5 deg relief and a 2 deg rake towards the center. This is the proper geometry for the cutting edges. There is a back relief but I didn't sharpen that. You can sharpen the cutting edges several times similar to how I did it here before the land...
