Purchased property, what to do first?

Everyone will give different opinions...but to me #1 is "critters are digging around edge getting in". What worked for me around an old barn on my place was putting 2 insulators at each corner about 6" from ground. Then electric fence wire all around and a small charger. That stopped that for...

    Full set of 10MM sockets

That's funny. Thankfully I don't like in California where those cause cancer and reproductive harm. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk

Does your homeowners insurance cover your pole barn?

I understand that, and didn't elaborate on insurance. Your agent can explain coverages. My point was we live in very litigious times. Someone could get injured on my property or car accident. A $1M claim isn't uncommon, and the umbrella wasn't that much. The high deductible also can save a lot...

Does your homeowners insurance cover your pole barn?

I didn't read through all replies but a couple things to think about. Raising deductible to, say, $1,000 the premium savings can lower cost so a few years pay the deductible. Another is check price on a $1-2 million umbrella policy which covers home, auto, etc. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk

What happens after I cut my finger off?

Luckily growing up grandfather next door was a physician so we got free medical care. Glass is the worst to get out of hands. I had to go to local clinic recently, the worst part is novacane shots in fingers. Strange how I can get hit hard by something and it doesn't hurt...but needles in...

What happens after I cut my finger off?

I cut the end of my pinky off about 15 years ago with electric hedge clippers. After showing it to a few neighbors watching them faint[emoji38] wife drove me to ER where they reattached it. It was still hanging by some skin. I always heard keep it on ice, get to ER asap. Dad (rip) was Sears...

Do I need vapor tight lights?

I'm in the process of installed these in our new horse stable I ordered from Home Depot. I'm using conduit, glass unscrews with cage off. It has rubber gaskets. Standard E26 lamp base, I'm using LEDs. I chose them because of hay and straw dust (and methane gas [emoji3]). In garage I just used...

How to Clean Up Rusted Floorpans

Someone may chime in on this. Many years ago a guy I knew after cleaning best he could used fiberglass sheets and some kind of liquid activator. To me though a fast, cheap, easy fix may be just get a roll of aluminum flashing. Wear gloves! Roll it out, cut to fit, easy hammer to shape, caulk...

    Antique Battery Charger

It would have to rectify the transformer secondary. It's a very interesting piece of history and kept as it. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk

Diode Bridge & Washing Soda Rust Removal

Power diodes should be mounted on heat sinks. One large sink would be ok but you would have to use insulators. If you have two 12v batteries and two chargers that would be easiest. Just series two batteries for 24vdc, charger on each battery. I like these bridges better. 1/4" lugs, one bolt...

    Power Inverter

$? Certainly with solar and batteries you can run your whole house, even sell back excess (I assume you can), but everything has a cost/benefit factor. If I lived in Palm Springs I would be very interested in solar...but it seems like here near the Blue Ridge it's cloudy a lot and rains quite a...

What a fantastic birthday gift for my honey! Every garage should have one right on the counter for when they get a real grouchy customer! [emoji3] Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk

    Stone barn.... Is this realistic?

It certainly wouldn't hurt to get an estimate of cost, you said $20/ton they guy tearing it down should be able to give an approximation of total cost. What state or area is this located? It's a shame to see something like that hauled to a landfill. When I started a business in 70s it was...

    Stone barn.... Is this realistic?

Such a shame that's being torn down. Hope they salvage all the stained glass. If you have the means and space and estimate cost of getting it to your place I would certainly do that. At least then you have it. Even something like a stone wall out of it would be beautiful at your place. Sent...

    Power Inverter

Here's some information... 2 Things to Know When Sizing a Battery Backup Unit for a Refrigerator: https://www.mediproducts.net/blog/battery-backup-for-refrigerator Years ago I spoke with a local power supply technician who said since most outages occur in the winter all you have to do is put...

    Power Inverter

An inverter on battery wouldn't run a refrigerator for long! I'm guessing a couple hours? Look up inverters, check your refrigerator power demand and you could figure it out. An inverter and battery may be ok for low power things, but anything like refrigerator, well pump, etc. you'd need a...

    Reasonable Parts Markup?

I retired from a service business, consumer electronics repair but same principle. I belonged to a large organization of business owners worldwide. We talked about lots of things, business, tips, etc., but not pricing since that could get "sticky" (everyone raising rates, etc). We talked a lot...

Seeking Info on Military Gread Low Voltage Tester

I agree with Geoff, (except for calibration part). I'm a retired electronic technician and I'm 40 miles from OP! It's too old to be useful, just a curio. My suggestion is contact this place: https://www.mrtwv.org/ It's the museum of radio and technology in Huntington WV. Donate it to them for a...
