Check out these Matco impact sockets, not quite the off centered HF ones but...

These definitely are not ADV. ADV have a single larger size mark towards the middle versus the smaller size mark with mm, towards the top. It is disappointing because the "good ones" I preferred to the Snap On ones. The Snap On impacts seem to be made of something a bit harder than cold butter.

Dewalt 80 gallon air compressor help

Those pumps with the De Walt links look similar to the pumps that come on Sanborn or Curtis value series air compressors. My local air compressor dealer sells them to the tire shops in town in the 7.5 HP configuration and says the shops are happy with them. The better motor & a magnetic...

Check out these Matco impact sockets, not quite the off centered HF ones but...

None of my Matco impacts say USA on them. There is also nothing that says they aren't made here. Not in the plastic, nor the product label. There is a company also located in Stow, OH that claims to make impact sockets for them. My Matco distributor has suggested some Matco sockets are Made...

Check out these Matco impact sockets, not quite the off centered HF ones but...

Picture #1. Broached all the way down. Picture #2. An insert to break the broach. Picture #3. A "good" impact socket. I got Matco hardline (NOT their ADV) 10-36mm 1/2" deeps today. I didn't realize it right away but many had full depth broach and two had an "insert" to make it a shallow...

Dewalt 80 gallon air compressor help

For the two higher priced models, I really don't think De Walt makes air compressor pumps that look the same as Sunburn and Curtis in this price range. I believe they'll all Made in China and are of decent quality. The cheaper one is a different pump, probably smaller and faster turning, lower...

Have you used a torque angle gauge?

Use a torque wrench that has angle measurement instead https://store.snapon.com/TechAngle-174-Models-2-Accuracy-Ratcheting-Flex-Head-1-2-quot-Drive-Flex-Head-TechAngle-174-Torque-Wrench-12-5-250-ft-lb--P889396.aspx In the past where the spec was 90 degrees it wasn't too hard to do without, but...

Square d pressure switches ****, is there a better USA made brand out there?

I don't think folks should be beating up the OP. A lot of these cheap compressors delete the magnetic starter and use a low HP pressure switch. They may last years for someone who just looks at the compressor but doesn't really use it. For more frequent use, they are only good for 5-6 months...

Square d pressure switches ****, is there a better USA made brand out there?

You can buy a 5 HP mag starter off eBay for $120-150 and tie them in with a standard pressure switch. The mag starter is just a high power contactor, so the pressure switch is only controlling the low amp contactor. Something like this...

Square d pressure switches ****, is there a better USA made brand out there?

Condors are the most popular today from what I've seen. But they get put on marginal applications where they fail. Just one example, HF 5 HP compressors are using standard low HP Condor pressure switches... If the compressor is true 5 HP or larger, a mag starter is the best way to go.

Square d pressure switches ****, is there a better USA made brand out there?

What is the HP of your air compressor? What does the motor nameplate say for amps? Generally around 5 HP (19-22A) you should be using a magnetic starter or you will be burning through pressure switches. Condors are popular. The lower HP ones are Made in China, 5 HP ones are Made in Germany...

    Tap and die set

I think a lot of it has to do with application. Some mechanics clean things like head bolt threads with a tap, others say they should use a rethreaded. When we say clean here, we are talking about removing grease and grime, with no attempt to recut threads. In a machine shop the application...

    Tap and die set

On Monday I was in need of a 7/16-20 NF tap. Neither Lowe's or the farm store had anything remotely close. Fastenal needed to order in as well. I asked my Snap On guy and he said he has it on the truck. My only mistake was not asking him first. Like T45 said, I prefer to have the SAE and...

    Tap and die set

I've been looking to update my tap & die sets. It looks like the new tap & die sets from Hansen are Made in China. I saw a set or two on the Matco truck and it was Taiwan. Snap On says theirs are Made in the U.S.A. and the prices seem to reflect this. SNAP ON 41 pc Metric Tap and Die Set...

    Taps & Dies

These sets are available from all the major tool trucks plus Craftsman and other sources. Snap On RTD48 is one example. When cleaning up threads you'd rather push them back into place rather than cut more metal which is what the tap would do.

    Matco 3/4 36" Breaker Bar

I use a Craftsman 3/4" drive 18" breaker bar with a 3 foot black iron pipe over the handle. No complaints & it hasn't broken yet. In the past I've used it with 5 foot black iron pipe doing among other things, upper ball joints on a 90 D250.

    Big tool purchase. Need suggestions!

Now you just spent more money for the OP :D. He is not a pro forestry company. He has various needs so he has a generic tractor with a FEL. A farm truck with winch is indespensible.

    Big tool purchase. Need suggestions!

A 26-30 gallon 2HP will run a 1/2" impact "good enough". You may find that a lot of the tools you buy today won't be lifetime for you because your needs and wants will change. Outside of very specific tasks a plasma is a "luxury item". Also keep in mind the more you buy, the more you feel...

    Big tool purchase. Need suggestions!

The OP bought some used equipment, had problems with it, and now wants to buy new stuff of perceived adequate quality to prevent past problem experiences. Also, people in the rural South are typically very family minded, and strive to be self-sufficient. This could be true in other parts of...
