Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

When you say under the roof joists are you talking up in the attic roof on the rafters? That is something I had considered. Or do you mean underneath where I’d be putting the batts? If its the later I can’t do that because I can’t go under my current 8’ ceiling height.

Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

Sorry, the above was supposed to be a quote of your first reply, mike93lx. Doesn‘t seem like I can get the qoute feature to work.

Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

That was my thinking as well, R21 better than nothing. I wish there was a way to know what it would be like with R21 vs a higher R value. If it was just a difference of $100 a year I’d probably just go with R21. But if it becomes the difference of it heating poorly, and my heater is constantly...

Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

I think the building was built at least 50 years ago, and the attic floor was already there and fully loaded with stuff when we moved in. I agree, could be much better. That does get me to thinking, if I replaced all the rafter ties with larger ones, I could probably attach them up higher and...

Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

I am in the process of insulating and heating my 24x30 detached garage with a mini split. Building is located in zone 5 in southern Michigan and will be heated with a 18k btu Mitsubishi hyper heat mini split. Goal is to keep it around 60 or 65 throughout the winter. The building has a loft area...

Adding lean to on 2 car garage…can I tie into rafters higher with a pitch break?

This is great! The pictures are super helpful. Looks like they cut the top end to the angle of the rafter and then toenailed it to the bottom of the rafter and top of the top plate? Do you guys know which roof pitches you have? Look like maybe 4/12? I’m in MI but it’s southern Michigan so we...

Adding lean to on 2 car garage…can I tie into rafters higher with a pitch break?

Very helpful, thank you! I’m trying to see your pony wall in those photos and it looks like just 2x4’s that go from the top plate and nail into the side of the new rafters? I took some more photos to better show what I’m working with. As you can see there are walls already there on each side of...

Adding lean to on 2 car garage…can I tie into rafters higher with a pitch break?

I have a 2 car detached garage that desperately needs a roof but at the same time I would like to add a lean to on the right side for extra storage and a covered porch on the left. The issue is the eves come only to about 7’ on the side so to have a decent slope on the lean to and adequate wall...

MaxJax M6K lift anchors…regular or epoxy?

Ok thanks. That’s the conclusion I’ve come to as well, but it’s good to hear it validated from someone else who has experience. I went ahead and ordered the epoxy anchors from MaxJax. Now I just need to source a good concrete bit and plan where exactly to install it on the floor.

MaxJax M6K lift anchors…regular or epoxy?

Thanks mepstein. I just spoke to MaxJax and they have a set of the epoxy anchors they can sell me. But they’re $360! Seems ridiculous. Where did you get your aftermarket anchors? I’m just wondering if I can save a little bit before dropping that much money on hardware. Thanks By the way, I...

MaxJax M6K lift anchors…regular or epoxy?

Which dual tube applicator did you buy? I own a Harbor Freight Bauer SDS rotary hammer drill, is that adequate or is there something special about the Bosch? Did you do the method where you complete and anchor, put the lift back and mark each hole after finishing the previous to make sure each...

MaxJax M6K lift anchors…regular or epoxy?

Sounds like I can’t go wrong with epoxy and being that my lift came with no anchors, epoxy won’t be that much more expensive for me. So it’s best if I don’t drill through but if it’s only the minimum thickness and I have to drill through, is the epoxy still the way to go in that case? If it’s...

MaxJax M6K lift anchors…regular or epoxy?

mepstein and Rusted Nut, thank you! When you installed yours did you have enough epoxy? I’ve read reviews saying the kits don’t come with enough. What type of epoxy is used? Is it something that can be purchased outside of maxjax?

MaxJax M6K lift anchors…regular or epoxy?

I bought a used M6K that I am looking to install in my garage. Since it’s used it does‘t come with any anchors. Should I get the regular ones or the epoxy? Floor is probably 40+ years old but was never really used so its flat and in great condition. Heard people recommend the epoxy type but...
