What entry doors for a pole barn?

I also have 2 Anderson slider windows in the building. I'm going to have security film put on the door and windows to keep out some heat and discourage prying eyes a bit. Ultimately I'm going to have an alarm on the building, and right now there is a dawn to dusk light right by this door so...

What entry doors for a pole barn?

Mine was called out as "premium 3' x 6'8" metal frame metal door w/ 9-lite" on my order with Wick Buildings. I wanted some extra natural light. It's a 9-lite grid in between 2 high efficiency glass panes. Commercial grade, pre-assembled, good quality handset. It was made by Plyco...very...

    Modine PD-100 Burners won't fire.

Yeah, it's spark ignition. I'm assuming he replaced the spark electrode.... Clicks may just be the tick tick tick of the DSI system.

    Modine PD-100 Burners won't fire.

Are you hooked up to natural gas? Can you verify inlet pressure at the valve? Any chance the previous owner was running it on LP with an orifice change out? Just thinking out loud around potential gas flow issues.....

    Raising the Rat Shack

"So I saw the culprit making holes and nests today. My best guess is it's a vole. Saw him disappear down a hole, so a took the rake and filled in the hole and stomped on it. 3 hrs. later the hole was back. Not sure how to get rid of these things" I'd drop a poison bait block down the hole and...

    Water heater is toast!

Kinda curious what the anode looks like then. Also, if you ever flushed it?? Not saying that would have helped, some units just go early. I used to buy Brad White with a clean out on the bottom so I could open it up and inspect and clean every few years, but I'm on as well and didn't have a...

    Water heater is toast!

Check the availability of rebates from your local utility before making a final decision. I prefer the big names: Rheem, AO Smith, or Bradford White (and their private label brands).

    A coil small leak

If your line set is accessible for future replacement with a new system then probably. If not, wouldn't do it.

What is the difference between an oil-catch-can and an oil-vapor separator?

Same difference. As mentioned it requires routine emptying that most would forget to do, and of course adds cost. I drain about 2 ounces a month out of mine on a 2012 Mustang 5.0 N/A.

    Bye Bye Craftsman Clear Handles...

OK I'll bite since a bunch of you are crapping on Craftsman. I'm in the market for a "decent" new set of screwdrivers. Been taking some of my older so-so tools and creating tool sets to leave at the daughter's homes so I have some stuff already there when they call. Just throwing out a name...

SHOW OFF YOUR VINTAGE METAL CANS AND CONTAINERS!! oil, gas, ointments, and just cans

Scored this guy the other day for my collection. This is one example of the Rainier Jubilee series, lots of different colors and scenes on these cans...flat top style from the 40's-50's. The backstory was kind of cool. This one comes from the Boeing Seattle Supersonic "Wind Tunnel" find...

    Goodman vs Amana

Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TEV) is basically a variable orifice and helps the system operate efficiently by matching refrigerant flow to the evaporator load. If you don't have one you have a fixed orifice which is only truly properly sized for one operating condition, the rest of the time...

    My MO Shanty (24 x 27 x 12 Pole Barn)

Electric is in. Ran a 100 amp service from the main panel. For now I have 6 overhead LED light strips and a handfull of outlets etc. Plenty of ability to add on as I figure out my needs. I think the galvanized lights from Lowes actually turned out pretty nice, not too pricey and fit the...

    Goodman vs Amana

"Matched" coil just means original OEM had to test/certify to AHRI standards and got to publish data on it. Plenty of aftermarket coils are used every year without published "match" data and work just fine. Texas is littered with these guys: Mortex in Dallas, All Style Coil, Aspen Mfg to name...

    Goodman vs Amana

Google "HVAC seer savings calculator". 14 is minimum in your area now. Higher seer units usually have other features like compressor sound jackets, hi and low pressure switches for protection. Its more than just the efficiency. Every brand pretty much offers good/better/best feature sets...

    Goodman vs Amana

Goodman and Amana are owned by Daikin of Japan, but built on the same line in Houston. Grandaire is from the ICP side of the Carrier family tree. I'd go cheapest solution for now. That said, Texas and Florida are the two places where payback on 16 SEER over 14 is kinda slam dunk justified...

    final inspection on garage today

I just paid $400 for a Chamberlain opener installed on a 16 x 10 with one wall switch and two remotes. Wish mine was half price.....

    My MO Shanty (24 x 27 x 12 Pole Barn)

Thank you Sir! We've picked out some old school looking galvanized wall mount lights for the outside... 1 small unit will be by the man door under the lean-to, and 2 larger ones are for each side of the garage door. To complement those I'll probably be putting in some low voltage landscape...
