Are all the little pancake / hotdog compressors basically the same?

Well ok... I actually manage sound for a living. So far 25 odd years in audio production... both full scale live events (concerts) and studio albums. 80dB is about the level of a human voice or average TV volume. Regardless of weighting scale... 80dB A weight vs 80 dB C weight. Average shop...

Craftsman USA Factory - Bad News

There was a comment in the toolguy article... now deleted by someone who said they worked at the Ft Worth plant... tried to find it but the site vaporized all the comments. Hmmm. Said there were all kinds of issues at the plant. Problems with machinery, some never even running at all. Problems...

Are all the little pancake / hotdog compressors basically the same?

Nope! Nothing yet! Maybe soon. Maybe even next week. The big pile of kobalts a couple months ago was tempting but slept on those. Had no immediate need at the time... can't even remember which model it was. But the need is here now. Was screwing around with the cars just this afternoon...

Craftsman USA Factory - Bad News

Few months ago Mike Rowe... Mr dirty jobs hosted a tour of the Channellock plant. Anyone else catch that? My folks grabbed it on the dvr not sure what network it was on? Anyway yes everything was ancient. Machines. The building. The whole thing looked like state of the art circa 1940s? Had...

Craftsman USA Factory - Bad News

Everything I read had them aiming at being on par with import pricing. If we can do it in Taiwan for X bucks we can do it in the USA for about the same... And it's turned out that they can't. Which is a bummer. I also wonder what role Lowes played in this game as the primary retail partner...

Read an article before coming here... and then this press release from 2019 announcing groundbreaking in Ft Worth... https://www.stanleyblackanddecker.com/stanley-black-decker-announces-opening-new-craftsman-plant-fort-worth-texas One of the big takeaways for me? Part of the puzzle we'll never...

    Husky sockets - strange detents

Who remembers or maybe even bought..? A few years back the big box of husky sockets Christmas deal? Think it was 200 odd sockets for $100 ? Something like that? Seemed like most liked em then & didn't have many complaints? Most of my husky junk is at least that old... maybe a wee bit older.

    Husky sockets - strange detents

Huh that's weird. You still have the hang tag? Any idea where it was made? Bunch o husky sockets here including a full blow mold set. Most several years old so not recent production but none look like that. And they all fit any ratchet & extension... old Cman RP clubs, duralast, hazard freight...

    Klein Returning to Lowe’s?

Well Ok I was in my local usual depot tonight and... where'd all the Klein go? Electrical had a real shakeup. Tools stocked & very few empty pegs... lots of house brand "commercial electronics" taking over. Only Klein left, basically like the last store was meters & test gear. No screwdrivers...

Doyle Electrician Pliers let me down looking for alternative

Yeah #6 solid is optimistic for that style of plier... I'm in the live production / pro audio world surrounded by 12 stranded on any given day and I wouldn't even use em for that... I'd use diagonals or snips. I have the Milwaukee 6 in 1 and they're beefy I like em the needlenose tip is great...

    Klein Returning to Lowe’s?

Hmm I was in a depot yesterday that's well out of my usual travels... in electrical and almost everything Klein was gone. Had some meters left but no handtools of any type... no screwdrivers which bummed me out... but even the basic outlet testers & all that? Nothing. Not a fan of bLowes...

How does Milwaukee tool box compare to others?

It's been a second since I looked at those in depot but I remember them seeming a little hipper then the husky boxes. Sturdier & nicer fit & finish? Ultimately mostly due to limitations on space I bought a 26" Cman 2000 which everyone here seems to think is made of tin foil... but now it's 2...

12 point sockeets in addition to 6 point working on cars/light trucks and SUVs: do you have both shallow and deep? which drives?

Yup. Though limitations I'm thinking more of jobs that are above my paygrade... For instance history shows I'm a really terrible plumber. Easier & cheaper to make a call. I'm also not about to yank a motor & start pulling pistons. And if I ever do it's probably going to be something that...

12 point sockeets in addition to 6 point working on cars/light trucks and SUVs: do you have both shallow and deep? which drives?

Watch out because that guys gonna kill ya round these parts... JustinKase. Don't think I've ever come across an actual 12 point fastener/ socket ever. Carpenter stagehand musician homeowner style here. Honestly probably 75% of what I actually need is covered by a 75$ husky blowmold kit... Of...

Looking for a quality “third hand” soldering holder.

For something a little different check out a panavise. If that's too spendy Bessy makes a solid knockoff for about $25... or at least I think I paid that for mine a few years ago. Ultimately you probably want both styles... clip arms for wires & panavise for heavier parts like transformers &...

    Really, a flashlight jump starter?

Well I guess we could clamp it to your **** and see what happens... might work? You know who buys those things? Wives & moms. I have a pair of jump boxes that came from a home shopping network... don't get me gping...

    WIHA sighting at Lowes

Yes yes the wiha is out there in bLowes I've grabbed a few things including a full set screwdrivers properly made in Germany. In my store they aren't with the rest of the handtools or electrical... right it's a board in a weird spot in the middle of all the power tools. Start looking in corners...

Are all the little pancake / hotdog compressors basically the same?

Some good points all around so thanks to everyone so far & hope y'all are having an excellent new year! I'm not married to the budget of $150 but I think, while that Makita looks dope at $400-500 it's too much. At that point I'll spend a couple grand and put together a legit spray booth with a...

Are all the little pancake / hotdog compressors basically the same?

I'm in the market for a small basic compressor. Well aware of the limitations with a 3 or 6 gallon unit so we don't need to go there... most of the use is going to be cleaning filters & inflating tires. In looking around it seems there isn't a whole lotta variation among the various brands. Is...
