    Framing Long Walls

40x60x16 we stick built. 14' walls on block. We did those in 8 foot wide segments. Tried raising by hand but ended up using a telehandler.

    underground compressed air line?

PEX. Wouldn't be bad for a compressor shed to keep all the noise outside, too.

Mechanics: Any way to clean up exhaust/engine parts to prevent smoking at startup?

Brake clean and oil mix soaked into fibrous heat shields can catch fire as well, so be careful.

Cooling load calculation and Insulation ? Hot/ Humid Pole barn shop

Hahaha ain't that the truth. My dad's 40x60x16 2x6 balloon framed shop is cooled to 70 with a single window shaker here in NE Ohio. We even thought about running cool water through the floor since we dehumidify the shop for rust. Don't need to. El cheapo window unit. Sent from my SM-N910V...

One of my relatives and I were talking tools the other day, and how he can't believe milwaukee would keep making 18 volt tools when his 28 tools are crazy powerful, and asked if they are going to make new 28 volt tools. I replied that the battery and motor tech allows them to keep it 18v and...

What is the benefit of expensive tool chests?

I think this is the disconnect with diy guys like myself but I have seen the dealer and aftermarket shop side of it. Take your wrench drawer and socket drawer on a HF or entry level craftsman box (I have one myself) and fill it with tools to capacity. Then open and close it every 15 minutes to...

    School me on French Drains

I just put a 80 foot french drain in along my driveway. The total drop of the trench over 80 feet is only 4 inches. Then the water has to go to the top of the pipe before it gets to the bottom level of an existing culvert that runs under my driveway to get to the other side. I didn't think it...

What's the over under on the 1" impact torque? I haven't seen anything more on it but I think it would be suicide for it to have less than 2000 ft lbs. Sent from my SM-N910V using The Garage Journal mobile app

New Garage Planning - Changing my Mind on Heat

You could have a hydronic unit heater to turn on as a make up heater, either manual or auto from a door switch or programmed as a backup (ie: setpoint not reached in 1 hour since request, opening valve to heater, heater fan on, and have it shut off when setpoint is reached or close to it)...

Is Harbor Freight getting too big for its britches?

I did a quick analysis on the Hercules hex impact vs the m18 brushless (not fuel) hex impact. The whole setup on amazon with a 5ah battery and charger all purchased separately vs the kit from HF was something like $25 more for the Milwaukee. Similar for Dewalt. That isn't a value to me. Sent...

What's the consensus on the rotary tool? Buy that before spending double on a full dremel kit? I doubt it's something you could port cylinder heads with but would be nice to have for a quick cutoff tool or use with a sanding drum for deburring or sharpening, maybe light polishing?

    Garage Construction SubForum

Not sure if this has been suggested before, but in General Garage discussion it seems half of the threads are questions about building the garage, the rest are about working in it, etc. Thoughts about making another subforum like lighting, heating, etc for design tips, concerns, construction...

    Finalizing Shop plans, feedback encouraged

Why are you going with an unfinished ceiling? I know you're in Texas but the heat in the attic space needs to be segregated for effective cooling, and vice versa in the winter. I'm planning on a large exhaust fan in my garage ( also in planning stages) but ceiling joist mounted. To keep cool...
