    Home standby generator

One thing to look for with a Generac. Unless they have changed the location for the battery charger the charger is located at the panel and there is a line to the battery located at the generator. The line to the battery is pretty small and if it is too long there is insufficient current to...

    4X6 Bandsaw Blades

I've used the HF replacement blades, the higher priced option. If the blade tries to run off the saw you have to tighten the hell out of the blade tension. From what I read in the old Yahoo bandsaw group, you cannot tighten the tension too tight by hand so give it your best shot. Usually it...

    Black & Decker Workmate

You are definitely right about the 225 vs the 300. the 225 is 24 inch and the 300 is 29 inches wide. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of saw damage on the back rail so I will probably fab a new one. I looked closer at the one remaining back spacer and it appears to be a wrong one so I...

    Black & Decker Workmate

I have a 225 in the shop so I will measure. I can always fab new jaws if necessary but as you say the de-lamination can probably be glued. I need to get it really cleaned up and get that part in here. Will be glad to get this one back to first class condition. It doesn't show in the pics...

    Black & Decker Workmate

Thanks very much . I will order the block and probably a new jaw set . While the one for the 300 isn't available I will test a set from a 225. I expect the only difference is the number stamped on the wood. If the 225 fits then I will order a set.

    Black & Decker Workmate

I could certainly fab one as you say. I just wondered what the part is called and how to order it if available. I have a spacer on the other 3 corners. It looks strange with the one corner flat on the frame with no spacer.

    Black & Decker Workmate

I have a question for the experts. I recently picked up a 300 at the Habitat. It is complete except for one thing. There are three spacers between the jaws and the frame but the fourth spacer is missing. I sure would like to know what to be looking for, a source or a part number. See...

    Quality Pocket Knife

"Perhaps 'tis not strictly in accordance with the evidence, but even the damned may salute the eloquence of Mr. Webster." That is how I feel about the eloquent comments of Mr. R. Badger, who makes his namesake look like a tame critter. I thank you and my really outstanding cheap...

    Quality Pocket Knife

Betcha *** I am. I am not a snob about tools. I find one that will do what I need it to do and use it. This particular knife is strong, holds an edge and does what I ask it to do. I don't give a single rats *** what anyone thinks about it. The topic was "Quality Pocket Knife" . It did not...

    Quality Pocket Knife

Several years ago I would have said the same but this knife must be part of their "higher quality" push. It really is a decent knife. I use it daily for everything from prying open paint cans to using it to hammer things. It has served well. I have no HF stock. The quality is good, it...

    Quality Pocket Knife

My problem with any expensive pocketknife is that I manage to lose them. Usually in a chair or sofa where they turn up six months later. If I carry a cheap knife this doesn't happen. For the last year I have been carrying the HF "tactical" pocket knife. Not only have I been able to keep up...

    Shop camera’s & spiders

OP if you do find a solution please come back here and post it. I have the same problem and it is a PITA. The cameras work fine in daylight but at night when the IR comes on all you can see is webs right next to the lens. A workable solution would be welcome.

What kind of welders does everyone have?

My level of welding expertise extends to the most basic "tack exhaust pipe A to bracket B." With that in mind anything more than the cheapest low end welder would be massive overkill. I heard about the new DC welder from HF and had heard somewhere that DC was better. I bought the HF Easy...

    How to move my shed

You could nail a 2 x 6 to the outside wall 6 inches up and then nail another 2 x 6 to it if needed for more width . Jack under that . Rinse and repeat for the other side. That would be enough to get rollers under it unless as noted the bottoms of the walls are rotten.

    Mini cable Power Shovel

This came up next after the OP's video. The restoration of one of the big diggers after over 50 years under water. Pretty interesting .

What's going on in my little Garage....

Not that I would ever do so but beware of some of the characters on here who might criticize you for not getting your GF to participate in polishing your piston.

Whose using home automation in the garage or shop?

Not only should you do that but also one of the old theater advertisements for "popcorn and treats in the lobby" for intermission. Some of those were really cheezy!

Decent soldering gun for automotive wiring?

Weller may just have a bad tip. Try putting on a new tip or even re tighten the old one. My three Wellers are over 40 years old and all work perfectly. 8100 an 8200 and one of the old big ones . Hard to kill those things.

    Table Saw: Dust Collection

Just 2 cents worth, you likely can significantly improve on the HF saw by watching CL for a month under "Tools" It is fairly easy to find a good belt driven saw at a good price in most places. You would of course want to find one that would be easy to adapt to a vacuum setup.

    Tool Advice for First-Time Homeowner

Depending on the budget this is definitely a time when Craig's list is your friend. Even if you upgrade later you can pick up all sorts of tools for cents on the dollar. RE power a cheap trick I saw used once (can't imagine where) was a 100 foot roll of 12/2 with ground Romex with a plug on...
