Mono slab pour suggestions - Chimney/fireplace

We are getting ready to order a cold formed steel building for a residential build and I'm trying to plan for the foundation requirements in the 2018 IBC for thickness and footing requirements for a chimney & fireplace. When pouring this slab, does the entire slab get poured in one singular...

    Honeycomb edges - slab repair

We had a slab poured and there is honeycombing on the edges and corners, not fighting with the contractor to resolve as it's a no-win situation. What do the concrete experts in the forum recommend for the repair? There are several products available, I've watched a few videos and just looking...

Added a slab to existing concrete

Because we didn't want concrete throughout the entire structure. Maintaining livestock on concrete is more headache than we wanted. A gravel/dirt base is much easier and cleaner for maintenance. Why not tie in with rebar? Just trying to understand the methods and logic, appreciate the input.

Added a slab to existing concrete

They are really just a footing, 24" deep. The dirt areas on the lean-to sides are for animal enclosures.

Added a slab to existing concrete

We have a footing that was recently poured for an animal building so we left areas dirt for pens. My wife now wants an area enclosed within the building as a clean room for animal care and storage. Any suggestions on what needs to be done to add a slab within the grid area on the attached pic...

Concrete shop floor coatings - Any recommendations?

Our slab is scheduled to be poured on Saturday, the Mrs. has requested I start looking at coating options. This 2700 sq ft building is a hobby shop and will be subject to chemicals, welding, grinding and general shop use. At one time I did some research on ArmorPoxy products but I wasn't sure...

Calcium chloride in slab mix for cold weather pour

Really appreciate all of the insight and trade knowledge, I completely understand not wanting to sit on the job for 15+ hours waiting for the concrete to setup. Will be 85-90 yards in total so I didn't want to waste money on addtives that aren't necessary but in this case it might be worth...

Calcium chloride in slab mix for cold weather pour

Ultimately, I am responsible either way. You can't squeeze lemonade from a watermelon, most of the contractors I've engaged with are small operators hopping from job to job. Trying to take a guy like that to court is a fruitless effort, and at the end I'm left left dealing with a mess. Seems...

Calcium chloride in slab mix for cold weather pour

That sounds nice and I agree there is a level of trust placed when working with any trade. At the end of the day it's my project, my property and my funds. Going after someone legally after the fact seems like a venture I would rather not take, instead I would rather mitigate the risks and do...

Calcium chloride in slab mix for cold weather pour

Mostly because we are having low temps in our area, I'm refusing to let them pour in sub-freezing conditions but he still wants it even if we pour above 32F. So I'm trying to understand the risks and learn best practices.

Calcium chloride in slab mix for cold weather pour

Thanks for the replies, what temperatures (obviously if it's below 32F) are these additives recommended? For example if pouring at 38-40F is anything recommended? Just trying to make sure I understand the requirements, the concrete plant is more than happy to sell anything I'm willing to buy.

Calcium chloride in slab mix for cold weather pour

We are trying to pour our building slab next week, contractor wants to use calcium chloride. I've done some reading on the chemical use and it seems as though this was once frowned upon as there is risk for accelerating corrosion of the rebar. The temperatures will be above freezing, is there...
