Anyone else havd/had their garage wired like this?

We only have 100 amp service. The electrician said we still have room in our panel and that it did not have to be changed. All houses built in this area have the same service. He did mention we could put in a subpanel in order to add additional room but we still had slots left on the original panel.

Anyone else havd/had their garage wired like this?

Well, after speaking with the electrician, he recommended that two circuits be run out to the garage and that there be seperate feeds for the outside recepticles. He is also going to check (when he comes back) the existing panel for any safety and loading issues. Next month he will be back to...

Anyone else havd/had their garage wired like this?

Hi All, Anyone else have their garage powered by one 20 amp breaker with 14 gauge wiring used for all 15a recepticles, switches and lights, not to mention the same breaker used to power the recepticles on the exterior of the house and the light post on the front yard? This seems to be common...

    The lawn mower thread (ugh)

My grandfather had a Mastercraft lawnmower that was around 24 years old. Had an old Briggs & Stratton "Easy Start" 3.5 HP engine on it. That thing ran like a charm. He took good care of it, but unfortunately it started to really rust through, and we had to stop using it. The pull cord was easy...

    DIY paver advice needed

Great job! I've got some pavers I need to change in the backyard - they were laid on top of a thin layer of gravel, top soil, and in some part, plastic (like vapor barrier almost), that I have to lift and redo. Great job again - looks like a pro did it

    Above Garage Door Storage

Thank you all for your responses, Once I get the garage cleaned out, I will build that overhead storage area above the garage door. Note, I double checked with my neighbour and he has 2x3's supporting the 2x4's, and he has no issues at all and he does store his winter tires up there. Thanks...

    Above Garage Door Storage

kbs2244, good idea, but I am more leaning towards building a big shelf supported by three walls (two side and front wall) that will hold equivalent of two full sheets of plywood as a shelf, and that way I can move a bunch of clutter and other things off the floor of my garage, taking advantage...

    Above Garage Door Storage

Hi Guys, Rather than hanging anything from my 2x4 rafters which are spaced 24 inches apart, I want to build a shelf above my garage door to take advantage of the free space there. Looking at how a neighbour of mine did his (our garages are 10x20, he simply screwed a 2x4 across the wall studs...

    Seal Coating a driveway

Does anyone know what the difference(s) are between the mix used for driveways and that used for highways, other than the size of the pebbles used? I know it is a finer mix, but are there other differences? It's true that I've never seen regular highways "sealed" and only driveways - could it...

    Seal Coating a driveway

Interesting discussion - We just had a new driveway put in late last summer - the company took out the existing driveway and fill underneath which was full of bricks, larger stones and a partial asphalt driveway (much to everyone's amazement). They put in clean fill, packed it all and put down...

How can mechanics afford Snap On?

As a "weekend warrior", I have few Snap-On tools. Largely, it is due to their overall cost. I certainly would love to have a box full of their tools knowing that I am supporting the North American economy, and getting quality at the same time. I made the mistake of buying a set of screwdrivers...

Sad Story...it's worth a minute to read though...

I am also sorry for your loss. I guess it is easy to say "maybe he should have done this or that" after the fact, but the fact remains accidents do happen even when you are trying to work as safe as possible. Growing up my Dad always stressed using massive wood blocks in combination with a...

    Another insulation question

Update - I can confirm that all the soffit vents are blocked with batt insulation. After tearing down some of the drywall from one wall starting in one corner, I noticed the vapor was not taped at all, and that aside from overlaping maybe two inches from one piece to the next, the barrier...

Installed new PVC roll out G-floor this weekend

Looks similar to the vinyl garage flooring that our Costco sells here, except the floor has diamond tread on it. Looks sharp, and I would be curious as to how it holds up as well.

    Another insulation question

My attached garage has maybe two to three feet from the ceiling joist to the top of the peak in the middle of the roof. In the "attic" the insulation is blocking the proper soffit vents so I need to fix that. The roof support system is all built out of 2x4 including the ceiling joists, so there...

    Needing help with closet doors

Good point - I have seen the doors open into the closet (smaller room but big walk in closet), but yeah, if something ever did fall and block the door, that would be a pain to get in there.

    Needing help with closet doors

We had three "floor to ceiling" sliding doors that were quite cheap and needed replacing. I built a header in all three closets and swapped them out with 80" high mirrored sliders. Look's clean and modern than what was there before. I have seen others do the same thing, and I have also seen...

Weather seals...which ones do I need?

That shouldn't be too difficult to change. We had our garage door changed last year and had to rebuild the entire frame. The floor was poured after it was all framed in. The bottoms had rotted out completely. Tore it all out, sealed up the holes in the concrete, put up 2x6 instead and had the...
