Sanity check, do they make different thickness interior door faceplates?

Schlage is very reputable door lock. I believe it is much better than many other brands out there.

Sanity check, do they make different thickness interior door faceplates?

This is what I am referring to. As you can see one is more substantial in thickness than the other.

Sanity check, do they make different thickness interior door faceplates?

The latch I am referring to has a serrated front piece with a thinner piece of rectangular sheet, not like yours. Your latch seems quite beefier like some of the older ones without the removable facade. But yes you get the idea. Chances are you may have purchased a better quality handle than...

Sanity check, do they make different thickness interior door faceplates?

Hi TT_ Vert. I believe that the doors you purchased are machined for the newer handles on the market. The newer handles have a latch system which can be used in 2 different ways. One way is to use it with the cylindrical latch press fit into the door or you can add the facade which is a...

    Multiple Tool Rigs

Wow that is smart route246 so this way at the end of the job there is no need to carry all 3 totes to the truck. So replanning my totes is in order. I used to like to carry all my "in case something happens tools with me" Now i am rethinking the whole situation.

Can this water on/off valve be rebuilt or does it need replaced?

Usually older valves are easily rebuilt. It is actually very simple technology, once you take it apart look for washer which may have to be changed, possibly O rings and packing under the nut that holds the handle down. Sometimes if you cannot find the proper packing that goes between the nut...

Do you use the plastic case your power tool came in?

I like the blow moulded cases for tools that are carried around from one repair site to another. It is much easier to stack than the bags. If the tool companies absolutely want to sell tools with a plastic case then the only thing that I believe would be better than the plastic cases is a...

What angle cut on bottom of front door.

Just a thought. "The more I age, the more I learn. The more I learn , the more I realize how little I know." P.S. Only the people that know very little think they know it all. The old saying goes that there are a hundred ways to skin a( insert animal here). So just because you haven't seen it...

What angle cut on bottom of front door.

Just because it is not common practice doesn't mean it is wrong! Craftsmen are dieing off and the art of the trades is being lost, all of the knowledge accumulated and passed on through apprenticeships is no longer the case. The new generation with the "I know it all" attitude looks for...

What angle cut on bottom of front door.

I wish to remind some members to never say never. I have seen different setups even one where there was a rabbet in the bottom of the door to accomodate a sill plate that had a iron strip from one end to the other. On the bottom of the door there was some weather stripping, don't ask me what...

    Power Tool Part Frustration!!!!

Sometimes the old model number is no longer supported but the saw may have been replaced by a newer slightly modified model which may be very similar and therefore maybe you can used the part from the newer model. I had purchased a fifty or sixty year old drill and discovered that the model I...

wet grinding vs dry grinding concrete

From experience wet grinding is tricky. As you said before too much water and the grinder does not grind efficiently, but if you can find the right combination it will grind just fine and keep the dust down. As for the slurry a squeegee and a wet/dry vac simplifies cleanup. If you attach a hose...

The button under the spring arm, is it rubber or black metal? Does the upper slide door open? Is there any voltage in this contraption?

    Recommended Multi-tool Metal Cutting Blade

I think you are over-simplifying things. A multitool has its' place like any other tool in the toolbox. I use mine if I want to cut into drywall as I hate to use a sawzall on a wall with electrical wires running in it or anything of the sort, confined spaces as you mentioned and other uses...

Looking for tool between one-handed recip & electric carving knife

Maybe you should take an old sawzall blade and modify it so that you have more of a knife blade rather than a sawzall blade. Notice the hooks on the blade, that is what I believe catches the material and shakes it back and forth. In other words grind down the teeth so that it resembles a knife.

    Mystery too ID

It looks like a spreader to me. But for what, this I don't know. Maybe to set tension on a belt and pulley system where a motor may be set on a slide table.

When do I need a stud guard?

It is probably less time consuming to protect each stud than having to measure if your are over or under 1.25 inches. I install them whenever a wire goes through a 2x4. You just never know when hanging something heavy and someone or myself put in a longer screw. It is also cheaper than...
