Insulating detached garage on a budget

Heat rises, so if you're trying to keep heat in the building, you need to insulate the ceiling more than any other area. Foam insulation board can usually be found pretty cheap on Craigslist and has a higher R value per inch of thickness than just about anything else. It would be really easy to...

    Remodeling old pole building

If you're going to be replacing screws anyway, I'd remove the roof panels completely, and roll out a moisture barrier over the purlins before reattaching the roof sheets. This should prevent condensation from collecting on the underside of the roof metal. Once it's dry, you'll have more options...

So.. I want a white floor in my garage

Nice garage, and nice car! I'm torn between the aesthetics of a white floor, and the functionality of light gray. Which product did you end up using? How did the install go? Anything you'd do differently next time?

Best crack filler for exposed aggregate?

My front porch has a long, narrow crack that I'd like to fill and hopefully prevent further damage from freeze/thaw cycles. It's fine enough that it's easily missed if you're not looking for it, so grinding it out or filling with backer rod, etc isn't an option. I've got some Legacy Extreme Set...

    Polyiso between wall girts

I just picked up a bunch of foil faced polyiso sheets 1.5 inches thick to place between my girts. Found a place on Craigslist that sells it for $9/ sheet less than the box stores (who would've had to special order that size). Once the foam is up, the long term plan is to frame out the walls and...

    LED Panels

I had similar concerns about hanging low, so I added some wooden framing, and secured rails for t-bar/drop ceiling to that framing. The lights should be flush with the ceiling when I get to that point. Nothing hanging down to get damaged, require dusting, or look "tacked on" rather than properly...

How would you keep cellulose off of these lights?

Maybe I'll try that next time I install panels. For this project, the mounting is done, the lights are installed, I've purchased the material needed, and begun the fabrication. Redesigning the mounts with tabs or something that would allow the lights to drop out the bottom isn't super appealing...

Rigid foam under metal roofing without decking???

My shop has "double bubble" insulation sandwiched between the purlins and the metal. It acts more as a moisture barrier than insulation, but There's no condensation. I'll eventually finish a ceiling and insulate it properly as funding allows.
