Home AC stopped working last night...

As Bert suggested, your 40amp breaker is for "continuous" current. Your startup amps will be spiking up, and the fuses are presumably more useful for that. Also, fuses wear out rather quickly, so I wouldn't overthink it. I've replaced quite a few in my time, and I'm fairly young. Last time I...

    Outdoor Light Project - Questions

Thanks. The front side will be run under the eaves so it will have minimal sun exposure. In fact, it's already there and painted - I'm just going to tie it into a different circuit and replace the wiring in the conduit to do it correctly. The backside will have sun/water exposure but I am...

    Outdoor Light Project - Questions

I'm basically looking to expand my lighting both in front and behind the house (2 separate, but very similar, projects). Each project is comprised of the standard set up that you find in most homes: a switch that turns a single light fixture on/off. Both circuits are 15amps with 14/2 NM-B. My...

Garage Cabinets - NewAge Pro wall hung

I hung my new age pro with a 'traditional' install. Using their feet on the floor and into studs where I was able (at least one stud per cabinet). I have seen zero flex. I have the smaller ones that go above too (so they are full floating) and no flex on those either, but they're small and...

Looking for ideas for residential 3 car

I have the same garage footprint, except my corner door is on the right wall, and I have a door on the back wall of the left bay which leads into the house. I ended up doing a fridge and newage cabinets on the back recessed wall, effectively coming just shy of flush with the back wall of the...

Perfect, thank you. I've got the plan set then! Thanks everyone.

    Its always something....AC went out

Capacitors are cheap, and easy to replace. But when your family needs AC in the heat, time is of the essence, and the techs have them in the truck. It's a good idea to keep a spare. I just had a guy come out on my rental - all original unit that is 18 years old. He also told me 4-5 year life...

Advice for Adding Switched Ceiling Light Fixture in Bedroom

Thanks, but I want to put an old work box in and run a traditional light fixture. No. Thanks. I agree, seems easier than dealing with the ceiling joists. I would plan to go through the studs, not notch. Thanks, but this strategy would run along one joist, so i would just run the wire easily...

Advice for Adding Switched Ceiling Light Fixture in Bedroom

I have one room in my house that does not have ceiling lights, and I'm tired of it. It has a switched outlet, so I see 2 options for running the wiring, and curious which would be preferred / less work. Let's assume I install a fixture in the ceiling at or near a joist in both scenarios. Note...

Swapping out the 2 light bulbs for workshop lights on my ceiling - also ceiling drop extension cord?

I would do smart plugs and affix the remote to the wall adjacent to the switch for the existing lights.

Swapping out the 2 light bulbs for workshop lights on my ceiling - also ceiling drop extension cord?

T This is precisely what I did in a standard 3 car garage, and I've been very pleased with it. Something like this to replace the porcelain fixtures. And I just went with the feit 4 footers from costco that people here seem to hate. They work fine for a basic garage and they are UL listed -...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Uncle HoHo's Big Mountain Playstation

What an awesome thread. Thanks for salvaging it, just came across it for the first time today and got through it in a couple of sittings. I know you're a pro, but WOW, you have skills. Place is looking GREAT!

    Light for air compressor.

Personally, I would just tape a sign up on the exit that says "turn the compressor off!" or put a calendar reminder in my phone when I decide to go out and do some work. The time investment is negligible and worth a shot.

Simple, Noob Questions for inside the home

Thanks everyone. I'll paint first, and I'll aim to just leave the baseboards in place (and re-paint them). The carpet installer says they can do it without touching the baseboards (the carpet is tucked under). And I'm leaning toward not replacing the laminate flooring - we'll see what shape it's...

Simple, Noob Questions for inside the home

Hi everyone, I need to redo all the flooring and paint the walls in my rental property. 1.) Is there a chance in hell I can remove all the carpet and laminate flooring without destroying the baseboards? I know they'll get scratched at a minimum, but I will be painting them. So I'm really...

    Basic Plumbing Question

Curious to hear more about this. I had never considered this other than outdoor irrigation. Isn't that always the case with these types of shower heads that have a long hose? Or is that why shower head piping always terminates horizontally or downward. Hm. I will say that the original faucet...

    Basic Plumbing Question

I ended up buying this dishwasher adapter rubber fitting and it worked like a charm. Stuck a 5/8" barb to 1/2" NPT fitting on the outflow side and I was in business! Thanks for everyone's input.

    Basic Plumbing Question

Thanks, I'll search for those. I'm ok with an ugly aesthetic - this is temporary, and function is most important to us with a 3 month old on our hands. :willy_nil

    Basic Plumbing Question

Yes, the faucet is deck mounted, and no, I don't have easy access under the tub, unfortunately.
