    Drill alignment (Honk thread!)

    if you have access to a drill press, that's all you need to make a drill guide and a scrap block of metal for the guide. a guide with multi holes may not get into tight spots. even using a chunk of hardwood and superglue to keep the drill perpendicular for small number of holes.

    Looking for manual for old Sears Compressor 106.153681 (or anything 106.nnnnn)

    here is what I have done to rebuild cylinder head. disassemble, remove reed valves , flattened the head using sandpaper on a granite plate.as you can see the reed valve seats cleaned up perfect . I changed out the 1hp motor with a 2hp and increased the drive pulley works great now

    you can get all the parts for that compressor head on ebay, search for SEARS Compressor overhaul kit, it is a speedaire 2Z499 made by Campbell Hausfeld

    the tag on the motor as other have said is too low amperage for a 2HP motor as that import is not that efficient compared to a name brand 86% efficiency of that motor - not possible, more likely 65% which puts that motor at 1.5 HP on a good day

    Disassembled and cleaned the chuck, reground the spindle taper rotating in the new bearings, took off 1-2 thousands , spindle runout 1.5-2 tenths, the chuck with a 3/8 bit less than .0015" amazed at that old chuck.     started tearing it down, never been so easy, used a heat gun and very light taps with rubber mallet to separate pulleys and such , every part has a great fit , brass plug under quill stop , all set screws not over tightened , bearings only need new grease, I think it will be easier to replace...
