    Remote controlled light switches

I have Lutron Caseta for a good chunk of lights in the house. Work great. For my Christmas lights, I use Hubspace. Very affordable and the app is dead simple to use. I’d have no problem using any of their switches if the need arose.

How hard will it be to pull 250' of 4/0 from 2" conduit

It’s worth a shot. I wonder if you could use a pressure washer and inject pulling lube or dish soap into the run to give some slip. Best bet would be to pull all the conductors at once. Do you know the path of the run and could you dig down to the conduit mid point? What is the approximate...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Finally getting a seat at the grown up table

More progress on the mezzanine. Focused on the 10’x20’ section. Got all the I-beams in, including framing out for a dumbwaiter which I’ll add later if I don’t find a used forklift first. After having my buddy’s forklift for the past few weeks, I am seriously thinking I need one. Forklift also...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Finally getting a seat at the grown up table

Burned up some PTO today and got some progress made on the mezzanine. Not sure when my buddy will need his forklift back so trying to get the main structure done. GF came over and went to work painting the beams and columns. Figuring this will make them a bit cleaner so if/when friends come over...

Are 4" Surface Boxes worth it?

For that price, I’d probably buy a few sticks, a conventional bender, watch some YouTube videos while sitting on the throne and go practice. I saw a building the other day that the conduit runs bordered on artwork, evenly spaced on both the straights and turns. The guy who did it was obviously...

    Make 103.27270 mobile?

They make a dual function caster that has a caster and a solid stop you can set down and make it solid. I wouldn’t want a table saw shifting as I’m trying to rip a sheet. Casters do add height unless you mount them outboard of the frame the saw sits on. After I put a set of casters under a...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Finally getting a seat at the grown up table

Made some progress on the mezzanine columns today. Started off by finding shop center and some other key measurements. Cut up some columns and welded up the base plates and top plates. Didn’t get as far as I wanted but progress is progress. A good chunk of my fab tools are still at work so I had...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Finally getting a seat at the grown up table

More mezzanine progress. A fabricator friend and serious bargain hunter on FBM found a motorcycle lift close to my place and hooked up a trailer and loaded a forklift to go get the thing. Lift is on his trailer, forklift is now in my shop for use with the 20’ beams and I am grateful. Anchor...

OSB vs Metal vs Pallet Walls

The fastest and easiest way to break down a pallet is to put a long metal cutting sawzall in your sawzall and run it down the joint cutting the nails. You can then use a punch and push the nails out if you wanted. 2-3 minutes a pallet tops. In my shop, I put OSB from 4’-8’ and went over that...

    Mezzanine design resources

I’m about to start building a mezzanine in my shop. I was at a buddy’s business ( metal fab) and he was building a mezzanine. Based on what I saw, what he said/recommended is the basis for mine. I’m curious what will get posted here.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Started moving items from the back of the shop to anywhere else so I can start the mezzanine build. Had a buddy call me Wednesday evening on his way to pick up a motorcycle lift he bought. He brought a trailer to carry said lift and also brought his small forklift to load it. He was going to be...

    28 x 40 x 16 pole barn ceiling insulating ?

Sound deadening is usually achieved by adding mass. Dynamat was used in cars for this. Adding foam board to the bottom of your trusses will lessen the amount of noise that makes it to you but the noise is still there. Your fit up would need to be pretty tight as sound will definitely make it...

    28 x 40 x 16 pole barn ceiling insulating ?

Liner panel will probably work against you in sound reduction regardless of what insulation is behind it. Where are you located? Average temps? Shop used year round? Any current or future plans for HVAC? How much and what kind of noise are you trying to contain?

Above 1200 Sq/FT Finally getting a seat at the grown up table

The owner of the gym I train at hit me up for some equipment for his latest gym purchase. Had my buddy laser cut the pieces while I was in Miami last week and since I was already paying a delivery fee, I pulled the trigger on 8” 15# I-beams for the long spans on my mezzanine. Just so happened I...

    Battery chainsaw

I have the M18 mini chainsaw and it has done everything I’ve needed it to do, mostly small branches and limbs up to about 4”. I also used it to cut the ice that had my garage doors frozen shut. How much use are we talking about?
