    carbon monoxide

I read somewhere that the newer cars are a problem for the folks trying to commit suicide in a closed garage.....the article said that the car would run out of gas before the CO concentration got to a sufficient level to do the job. Don't remember the source of the article.

None of my neighbors park in their garage.

Lake Havasu City is the place to look for houses with garages....everything in the town is related to burning gasoline....boats, hot rods, quads, dirt bikes, jet skis, powered parasails, you name it, they have it. Driving down a residential street is a dream....3 bedroom house with a 7 car...

I'm going to say it; snap-on is a rip off unless you plan to resell

I have started equating the tool argument with an argument of golf club brands. Personally, I don't make a living using golf clubs and have almost zero golf ability. Therefore, IF I were to buy or use a golf club, price or availability is my only consideration. However, if ALL golf clubs were...

Recommend me a professional grade chainsaw

Rather than ask the amateur users, when I was shopping, I went to the Stihl and Husky dealers and told them "I will be cutting wood for heating. I want a saw that will cut lots of 24" logs without bogging. What do you have that will do the job?" Both recommended good saws and let me try them...

    Snap-on side cutters - E707BCG vs E709BCG

UPDATE to an old thread....we have probably 24 pair of E709BCG cutters here at work, our guys cut enough wire and ties that they dull a pair in about 6 weeks. We originally bought Snap On because of the quality, feel, and the fact they replaced them when dull. Just yesterday, we presented a...

If you could do it over again...

A couple that haven't been mentioned: *method to better seal bottom of garage doors and sides/top of doors to help with temperature stability AND to keep dust out *polished concrete floor instead of epoxy *move bay for lift to opposite end of garage from man door to house *better location for...

Another Air Compressor Thread... for new shop!

Quincy is an excellent brand, known for robustness and longevity. We rented one to supplement our other compressors while we were building a line with pneumatic screwdrivers (air hogs). The Quincy performed well under continuous load. The unit looks more substantial than most similar units...

The all inclusive PhotoBucket issues, problems and solutions

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard Why would anybody trust another party to store any important data? Storage is so cheap these days, it seems irresponsible to give important stuff to somebody you don't know.... send me your life savings and I will "store" it for you.....right. We have...

    Stolen Tools

What you said: "hello police? I had some items stolen from the garage" Police said: "we don't have time to investigate property crimes" What you should have said: "Hello police? I have a burglar in my garage. I think he has a gun" What you said: "I found my stolen items at *** Oak Street"...

    Project Research: Kegerator

A couple of tips not mentioned. I did a setup with a keg in an old ref. There are about 162 draws at 12 oz each in a keg. After you unload the keg, it takes a few hours for it to stabilize for a good draw. DIFFERENT BEERS REQUIRE DIFFERENT PRESSURES. Coors is a lower pressure than Bud, for...

    Milwaukee 60" mobile workbench

We bought this same box about six months ago when HD had them for $600 as I remember. Great box, nice self closing drawers, etc. We made some small shelves for the back board to hold tape measure, pencils, radio, etc. Probably one of the better boxes for cheap money.

advice on heating and cooling a wood shop

For a heat pump, are those units effective (efficient) at low temperatures? Twenty years ago, they had a lower outdoor temp limit...efficiency would drop off considerably when cold outside....are they still like that?

    Industrial-type ceiling fans?

Fans are super sensitive to the resistance to flow. A common beginner mistake is to mount the fan 18" from the ceiling and then wonder why the flow ***** in either direction. Of course, mounting the fan too low results in hair oil on the blades as the fan scrapes the top of your head.....Most...

Home Inspector strikes again Vol 3

Since the Home Inspector is paid by the buyer, the inspector is obligated to find things "wrong", otherwise he has a problem justifying his fee. In the past, I have sold two houses "as is" and the buyer on one didn't require the inspection. On the other, I gave the buyer a "fix it" budget of...

    8" hole through brick.

Since you don't show where you are living, here is a question: is there a local core drill company that charges by the hole? we had two for roof drains done by a sub.....they had the drill, came out and drilled them quickly, all was good. Rent 'ho, cheaper and faster.
