Ok I have some boxes with Stevens Boxes and Tools imprinted on them. I am assuming these predate the merger between Stevens Tools and Walden in 1926? Would it be reasonable to assume they were made between 1900 and 1926? Here’s a Stevens box….about 6”x 3” x 1.5”

Im gonna pull the bolts and see if there’s enough clearance to take it out but I think that weld might still be in the way …I’ll update when I get it attempted…might be a coupe of days or so. Thanks!

UPDATE: I acquired this massive 1” Proto 5849 ratchet (male /female version) that some Jack leg has welded a 3/4” drive 1-5/16” socket onto. Ratchet works fine but my question is—what are my options ? Tear it down and just put a rebuild kit in it? No idea why he did this but….damn. Ratchet is...

I only see the 656HD listed in the 2004 catalogs I think…maybe the 656 is listed in a catalog that not in the archive. I’m thinking it’s late 90s or early 2000s

Thanks for the catalog links! I think the 656A is still sold and maybe the 656HD but i think they are China/Taiwan made now with a lower ductile rating on dynamic jaws and overall lighter weight.

I’m restoring this Wilton 656 bench vise. Anyone have any idea when this model was in production? Vise weighs 65 lbs. This ain’t one made in China like the 656A models that weigh 50 lbs or so. There’s no date stamp like the bullet vises have on the slide bar underneath. At least I haven’t...

yeah, i think I'll put on a new horseshoe collar and see how much slop is still left. Might have to build up that screw head a bit with weld. Appreciate the comment.

I agree the horseshoe seems oversized now somehow....I was also wondering if the spindle has been changed out or if the wrong horseshoe was installed for some reason. Maybe its just wear coupled with the beating this vise has taken in 15 years. It certainly has some "character" marks on it. Thanks.
