    More Electrical Service questions

I'm starting to think we need an Electrical category to the forums :shocking: First let me describe what I have. House built in 1886. Had an addition built in the 60's. The addition was an Inlaws apartment for those of you that know what that is. I've got about 3200 S.F. of house that I've...

    New build, need some input

For me the decision for Radiant heat vs on demand heat was whether I would store anything in the building that couldn't stand freezing. I'm going with a wood shop in the loft of my barn and between stains, paint, and other materials I decided to go with radiant heat to keep a low, above...

    Another pole barn/insulation scenario

I sure hope it's workable, because that's exactly my plan.

    Problem with neighbor's new house

I'm feeling wordy today. Just so you know I sympathize. I live on a dirt road with my nearest neighbor about 1/8th of a mile away, EXCEPT a trailer across the road. I'm sure it began life as a hunting camp. The owner of said trailer didn't own the land it sat on. (I do know the owner) it was...

    Problem with neighbor's new house

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but I'm sure glad I live so far out in the country that I don't have to worry about my neigbors telling me what's acceptable. **Edit for arguments sake*** I worked by myself residing the exterior of my house, I did a total of 3 sides and a deck. I did it as I...

    garage door install ???

Have you purchased the doors yet? I found an installer that gave me a better deal than I could buy the door myself, with installation it was still cheaper.

Slab heat in shops and garages.

Most of the time I spend on my back under a vehicle. heated slab makes it more comfortable. Also Radiant heats the objects, not the air of the building. As you stated takes a while to heat, and cool, therefore there isn't such a loss when you open that big garage door. Mine will be shut down in...

    Pole Barn Post Covering Options?

I haven't done this to mine YET, but here's my plan. Poles on Mine are 4x6 PT posts. I'm going to put up rigid foam against the exterior sheeting (wood) and then frame out the interior so that the studs end up even with the posts. Then I'll Drywall the interior.

    Pole barn post backfill

Exactly how mine was done. I've heard arguments on both sides, encased in concrete or embedded in concrete. Here in the North East there are thousands of barns that have been built setting posts in the ground that are over 100 yrs old. They're still standing.

Forced Air Furnace, in Pole barn

I had guys wanting my old oil tank for a barbeque grill, one guy told me any more I wanted to get rid of give him a call. You can smoke up about 2 dozen chickens or a whole side of beef in one ;) I have to go with a 50/50 mix in my area as it gets mighty cold around here. if the temps drop...

Forced Air Furnace, in Pole barn

I heat my home with oil fired forced air. Get 2 or 3 spare nozzles and filters, Mount the Filter just outside the tank, it gets a bit messy changing them out and you don't want heating oil all over the shop floor. I would put the Furnace relatively close to wherever you spend the most time...

Car part used as art etc? Garage decoration?

I've got the Grill from my 69 Bronco that's going on the wall (as soon as I have finished interior walls). I'm going to put low voltage lights in the shell of an old pair of headlights and make them work.

    Wood boilers

No neighbors for over a half a mile. don't have to buy wood. My brother-in-law has one. He's been pretty happy with it, just looking for other experiences.

    Wood boilers

I'm debating using a outside wood boiler in place for my garage, and suplimental heat for my house. I'm looking at radiant floor heat for the garage. Concrete won't go in until spring. (temp finally dropped here in Pa). Anybody have any experiences with a similar setup?

    Wall sheathing question

I've seen it done both ways. Mine was done before. The advantage is that it will strengthen and square the walls. If you're walls are perfectly square and are braced adequately it can be done after.

    Painting under-body, frame, etc.

I've got a couple years on my 69 bronco that's been used on the trail since using this stuff: http://www.rustbullet.com/ Been very happy with it. Not as picky on the surface prep. Just two coats, then topcoat it.
