Running 100A service from house to new shop

I haven't connected up the panel yet, I keep getting conflicting information as I'm browsing around the site looking at other things. The 2/0 wire is good to about 125A at the 175ft distance I'm running it, so isn't it dangerous to backfeed it with the 200A main? Sorry to keep dragging this...

    Review of $15 Lights of America 8055SS 4' (2) T8 fixture

Thanks for the warning, I just spotted these as well as the white ones at wally world over the weekend. How are they in cold weather? I think I saw on one of the boxes they would start at -20F.

Running 100A service from house to new shop

Thanks for the info guys. I have decided to return the breaker and save the $70. I'll be hooking the 2/0 into the pass-thru lugs at the house (which is fed from the 200A main), and I'll have a 125A main in the panel out at the shop, roughly 175ft away. Should be fine right?

Running 100A service from house to new shop

I could still kill the 200A main in the panel and it would kill the shop panel... only difference would be if I add a 125A breaker then I could kill the shop panel at the house and leave the others on.. which right now is just the single 30A for a RV receptacle. I already bought the 125A...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

Thanks, I suspected as much.. I should just use #4 or #6 copper I have a 125A main breaker in the panel in the shop. Originally I had intended on adding a 125A breaker to the panel at the house to feed it because I only have 2/0 wire. But then I saw the pass-thru lugs and I just wanted...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

Thanks, I wouldn't consider using the aluminum except that I have about 10ft of it left over. So there wont be any issues with the aluminum corroding due to soil or moisture? Another thing I realized is that the 200A panel that is going to be feeding the 125A panel in the shop has "feed-thru"...

    Wire Marking Question

This is the exact same boat I'm in.. same wire already ran in conduit except it's 2/0-2/0-2/0-1.... I ran it in conduit the whole way to my metal building... 2/0 MHF is what I really wanted, but its almost impossible to find. You can pick it up at the home improvement stores, but only in #2 or...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

Got the conduit/wire ran this weekend.. This 2/0 wire is going to be a total pain to bend and fit into a breaker. Also, the 2/0 common and the #1 ground somehow I have to bond and get under the main lug in the main panel... do they make lugs that act as a splitter? Here's another question, can...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

Finally got this ordered today, 2/0-2/0-2/0-1 ran me $2.14 a foot.. So just so I make sure I have this straight, I have a panel on the outside of my house that is connected to the meter loop. This panel has a 200A main, with spots for individual breakers below. The plan is to add a 100A -...

Running electric out to Pole Barn Basics

I don't get it, all the supply houses around here only carry MHF in 2-2-2-4, or 4/0-4/0-4/0-2/0.. I'm running 100A service approx 150ft and the former is way too small and the latter is way to big.. It's almost impossible to find 2/0-2/0-2/0-1. I found 1 company that could order it, but they...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

Well in my case the wire will enter the shop in the conduit before it enters the inside panel.. I suppose in this case MHF wouldn't be up to code in this 3' spot. I had found some 2/0-3 here locally for $1.57ft, and the 2/0-3 plus #1 is $2.41 a foot.. I guess I need to call back and find out...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

So I actually need both a ground back to the main panel (EGC) and a ground rod at the garage , effectively connecting the 2 together? Same here, 2" conduit already through the slab.. I'm having some trouble tracking this down, most places have 2/0-3 but they don't have the 2/0-3 plus ground...

Running 100A service from house to new shop

When I built my house, I had a 320A service put in so I could dedicate a 100A subpanel to running out to the shop when I built it. The panel is in place, and has a 100A main breaker. I plan on adding another panel at the shop with a 100A main, and individual breakers for the lights, outlets...

My Father's day gift: 30x50 shop build

Since I'm new to the forum, and building a shop, I felt this was the appropriate place to introduce myself.. Over Father's day weekend I was presented with a gift from my wife: A binder containing updated quotes for the shop that I had originally gotten in 2006 as well as the means to pay for...

    Anyone used Zep floor sealers?

It's a new floor that was poured about 4 weeks ago. I had intended to hit it lightly with the pressure washer, then apply the sealer. Thanks guys, I just didn't want to regret ever having laid eyes on this stuff :)

    Heat pump for shop?

I'm considering the same thing for my 30x50x13, although I was looking on craigslist for something around a 5 ton. The winters here in Arkansas aren't usually that bad, on the other hand the summers can be pretty miserable. In June of this year, we had temps pushing 110F.

    Anyone used Zep floor sealers?

I picked up a Gal of this stuff at a yard sale for $5 http://www.homedepot.com/buy/cleaning/professional-cleaning/zep/stain-resistant-floor-sealer-gallon-61906.html#specifications Has anyone here used it on anything? It says it covers approx 1500 sq ft., which is exactly the area of the slab...
