post your tools left in the engine bay story

I lost a Snap On 15mm semi-deep 3/8" socket into "no mans land" of a Wrangler. I looked for it for 10min or so and just chalked it up as a loss. I bought another one off of the truck. About 8months later, same customer, same jeep comes in for brake work. I start the job and see my socket...

I ran over my Snap On cordless ratchet

I was fully prepared just to buy another one. My driver suggested that he could send it in and have it repaired for a flat fee. I think that he said that it would have been around $150. He and I were both surprised that they warrantied it and didn't charge a penny.

I ran over my Snap On cordless ratchet

A couple months back I bought a Snap On cordless Li Ion CTR761B 3/8" ratchet off of the truck. I used it daily and it was fantastic...one of the best purchases I've made in a while. I was working on trans of a Jeep and made the mistake of leaving the ratchet laying on the inside of the front...

    show car assy-help needed

Painters tape on all of the finished edges and heavy paper on the lengths will keep the paint better than with no protection at all. Sacrificial rags like Skipnay said above And take your time. If you get in a rush or try to hurry to get something finished before the night is over or...

KRSC43 I've been eyeballing this one up on the truck for 3 weeks. Its super-nifty. I don't see anything about it that I would change. I was unsure about the lid until I tried it and its the way to go for sure.

ISO Exhaust Draft hood for older Bryant boiler

I got a free boiler for my garage to run the radiant heat. I have it plumbed in and have started it up just to make sure all is well. I just need a draft hood to finish the job. I have tried all of the local HVAC shops in the area and online. I cant seem to find one. I need a 6" necked down...

What would you pay for a Snap-on Epiq 68"?

I've seen it all. Comparing an EPIQ to the HF box....lol I think high 3k is a darn good deal. That box would sell for upwards of 6k here, used. Snappy dealer would get around 9k for it.

    Keep pex out of concete?

nonsence, if your floor cracks and shifts enough to break that tubing, you will have much much more to worry about than the pex in your floor. Do it the way you described. My 50x40 is fine after 5yrs of buried pex in the floor.

Finally laser marked some of my tools

I used to have access to one, and I've thought about this. I would probably come up with an icon or something as opposed to my name or initials. It kills any resale value when a name is scribed onto hand tools. Regardless, looks good though. What engraver are you using for that?

AutoRepair cloud is a dark horse

Good to know. I have been looking for a new shop management program to replace the one currently in use for us. I have tried Advances' Moto Shop and found it too user un-friendly, also my customers hated the invoice layout. I just signed up for a 3mo trial, I'll keep you posted on my...

    Knives & blacksmithing and more

I have long been interested in both art and knife making. You truly have a talent that is fading with generations. I hope that you can pass your knowledge onto a young person that can keep your tradition alive. These are some great examples of your craft.

Question for professional mechanics. Does namebrand matter? Story inside.

In a shop environment, ease of warranty is important to me. I buy all snappy for the commonly broken, hard use tools. I don't want to spend my free time in the evenings going to Sears or Harbor Freight to swap out the 14mm socket that I need tomorrow. As far as quality is concerned, there are...
